Principal of Snowfields' message

It gives us great pleasure to welcome students to Pathfinder at Snowfields; our Sixth Form provision. As you arrive at this key point in your education, it is important you carefully consider the options you have and plan for your future.
The priority of Pathfinder College will be to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to take your next steps in life; whether this be into further study or into the world of employment.

At Pathfinder you will be given opportunities to increase your independence, build on and nurture new skills, and prepare yourself for your future careers. Our core values remain the same and we hope that they are ones that will remain with you throughout your lives.

We look forward to supporting you in work experience opportunities, introducing you to new and exciting skills and nurturing the interests you already have and may yet discover.

Director of Post 16 Learning's message

Pathfinder at Snowfield Academy aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge they will need to enter the workforce and lead useful and productive lives. The qualifications offered will give students the opportunity to experience real world situations and apply problem solving techniques so that they feel ready to enter employment, apprenticeships or further specialised education when they leave us.

We aim to shape young people into kind, caring and responsible members of society through a range of cultural experiences and accessing the facilities in our local community.

Our Curriculum Offer:

Students attending Snowfields Pathfinder will have the opportunity to:

Continue study of their core subjects - English and Maths up to Level 2 or equivalent

Where English or Maths has been achieved - to study for a Independent Learning Project in either Enterprise and/or Mental Health First Aid.

Take two ‘choice subjects’ up to Level 2 - which focus on entrance to the workplace.

Complete NCFE Level 2 Relationships, Sex and Health Education to promote an understanding of positive relationships.

Undertake activities that prepare students for the world of work and increase their resilience in using problem solving skills.

Take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme - building on skills for life, positive mental health and active lifestyles.

Students will study all courses on the Core Subject list and the Preparation for Life list. They will then make a choice of one course in each column.

Choice courses are coursework/portfolio based and are internally assessed, followed by an external Quality Assurance process.
This allows students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge creatively; showing their understanding of the success criteria through written assignments, practical tasks and professional discussion.
Students will receive a pass mark at Level 2 which can be used on a CV to seek employment in the future.
