What is junk food?
'Junk foods' are foods that lack nutrients, vitamins and minerals, and are high in kilojoules (energy), salts, sugars, and fats. Junk food is so called because it doesn’t play a role in healthy eating, especially if it's eaten to excess.
Junk food is also known as discretionary food or optional food.
Some examples of junk food include:
cakes and biscuits
fast foods (such as hot chips, burgers and pizzas)
chocolate and sweets
processed meat (such as bacon)
snacks (such as chips)
sugary drinks (such as sports, energy and soft drinks)
alcoholic drinks
If your diet is high in fats, salt and sugar and is not receiving essential nutrients, your risk of obesity and other chronic (long-term) diseases may well increase.

The first cause why People love eating junk food is Because those salty, crispy, greasy flavors are so over the top, they are practically addictive. Add in junk food sweets with their extreme sweetness and gooey texture and it is no wonder these foods taste heavenly. But taste is deceiving. Many of these tastes were learned in childhood and the good memories that go with them enhance your love of junk food. Also, these extreme flavors can actually change the impulse centers in the brain causing you to crave these foods.
The deal is this: More colors mean more added preservatives and hence more visual appeal to the food.
The second is because of its visual appear, More colorful and bigger the food, more chances it has to make you delighted into spending bucks to buy it. If you own it then you eat it. Furthermore, if you don’t think about the tasty red tomato sauce spread on the pasta with a dash of oregano and Parsley you wouldn’t be lured by it. The reason for being attracted to a pizza rather than rice-balls or salad is the presentation of junk foods with a variety of colors.

Studies done on fast food ( Junk Food ).
Unlike other recent studies, which have taken as a parameter the density of fast food in cities or per capita consumption, the researchers considered how many times in a year a person buys in a fast food restaurant (actions called "transactions").
These Transactions have been related to the average trend of the body mass index or BMI (parameter given by the weight ratio expressed in kilograms and the height expressed in meters squared, which defines the limit between normality, overweight and obesity corresponding to three indices (25, from 25 to 30 and more than 30), for the period between 1999 and 2008.
Even the individual data confirm the parallelism between the increase in fast food attendance and weight: among the countries in which the number of transactions per capita in fast food has increased the most as in Britain.
