A Little Bit About Mr. Stroot

By Steve StrootMr. Stroot is excited to be working with his class this year! He already knows that this class is especially awesome. He is particularly excited to be working at Foothill Elementary this year!
This is Mr. Stroot's ninth year teaching. He's taught fifth grade for five years. He's also taught third grade and kindergarten and long term substitute taught both first and second grade. Prior to teaching, Mr. Stroot was a classroom aide in special education. He's worked in education since 1997.
Mr. Stroot has been married to Mrs. Stroot, who is a teacher in San Jose (2019's District Teacher of the Year!), for seventeen years. They have two kids: Logan, who is in seventh grade at Redwood Middle School, and Gwen, who is in fifth grade at Foothill Elementary. They have two cats; Katamari, who is black, and Suki, who is white. The Stroot family lives in Sunnyvale and they love to go hiking, to play video games (except for Mrs. Stroot), to read, and to participate in after school activities like softball or chess club. Mrs. stroot is especially talented at making cookies.
Mr. Stroot expects his students to be safe, respectful, organized, and responsible in his classroom. Students shouldn't worry if they're having trouble with any of these. Mr. Stroot will help them develop these skills this year. His classroom is a fun place to be. There are, of course, times where the class needs to buckle down and work but, usually, students end up having a fairly fun time doing so.

Mr. Stroot values communication between himself and his students as well as between himself and his students' parents. He regularly sends out newsletters to keep students and parents aware of upcoming work and events. He is reachable by email and can meet with parents on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between the hours of 7:45 and 8:15 am when scheduled beforehand. He is quick to respond and works together with parents, students, and staff, where necessary, to resolve any concerns that may arise.
