Potter Penguins and the Melting Glacier

The Penguin Potter family lived happily on the shores of Antarctica. Przemek and Charlotte had two children - a son George and a daughter Emma. They lived in a large igloo with a garden. Dad fished plastic out of the water and Mum taught ecology at the school their children attended. Emma and George liked to ice skate and slide off the glaciers into the water after school, and their parents fished with other members of the herd after work.

One beautiful sunny day, nothing foretold that a thing, that would change their lives forever, would soon happen. Like every Friday afternoon, they all spent their free time playing on the glacier. However, the sun was getting hotter and hotter and the air was getting drier. Suddenly everyone felt that the ground began to vibrate slightly, but no one seemed to care. As time passed, the vibrations became stronger and more noticeable, and the glacier began to melt and crumble. Chunks of ice began to break off to form ice floes. Everyone panicked and started looking for their families. Then the iceberg shook and broke into millions of pieces. Three of them were occupied by the Potter family. Charlotte, Emma with George, and Przemek moved slowly away, each in a different direction. The little chicks were on their own.

They drifted through the ocean meeting lots of plastic floating in the water on their way. They were unable to find food, so they became more and more emaciated. After a few days, when they were starving, Emma decided to try to catch some fish. So she dipped her head in the water, looking around for food.Suddenly she felt like she couldn't catch her breath, and she surfaced. It turned out that she had become entangled in a plastic bag. George began to panic and tried to help his sister, but his efforts were to no avail.Then he saw a light approaching in the distance. It was the motorboat of a research team that was studying the lives of wild penguins. It was moving quickly towards the orifice where the penguins were. The researchers quickly removed the bag from Emma's head and carried both penguins aboard. They fed them and swam toward land. When they reached shore they got out of the motorboat and transported the siblings to the nature reserve.

George and Emma walked through the gate of the enclosure and couldn't believe what they saw. Sitting on a distant rock were their parents. The case of the Potter penguin family was publicized by the media. Many people became concerned about their plight and decided to reduce plastic and use less water. Since then, the condition of water has improved significantly, but it is still not perfect. So it is also worth starting to take care of it by sorting garbage and not wasting water.
