The Hospitality Recipe

For our recipe we used 4 basic ingredients:

Greek islands

Freedom-Peace

Dignity

Solidarity

Step 1:

First, we prepared the ingredients. It was not easy. We didn't buy them from the market. We thought about the meaning of the word 'hospitality'. The kind of hospitality expressed through love, respect no matter the nationality, the language, the religion. Greek hospitality.

We went back to our traditions. Ancient Greeks believed in Xenios Zeus, the hospitable god protector of guests. They believed that foreigners were sacred persons and treated them always with respect and kindness.

Step 3:

Then we built the 'house of hospitality' using the 4 basic ingredients.

Step 4:

With the help of the hospitality jar, we shared our experience as to the true meaning of the ingredients for each one of us. We didn't forget to talk about our border islands and their residents' effort to help war refugees.

Step 5:

We matched the basic ingredients with the ingredients for the 'ladokouloura'(olive oil-based pastries)
1. Greek islands - sesame, orange
2. freedom & peace - 'raki', our local drink, the first treat for our guests, a symbol of our homecountry's Crete free will.
3. dignity - olive oil, the fruit of labour, so clean and valuable, a 'must' for every Greek house.
4. solidarity - cinammon , its odour brings people together.

We mixed all ingredients together...
