In the centre of the dense, waterlogged Woodlands, when the world was new, many animals were working hard all day. Discovering new habitats; constructing homes; hunting for food- this was every animals’ daily job.

There was one little animal called Hedgehog. Most days, he would collect sticks and twigs; if he wasn’t doing that then he would be digging burrows underground. His fur was golden brown with a hint of black- he was just a fur- ball. With his elongated nose protruding out, he would sniff the floor for any insects or bugs to eat.

With many predators living nearby his habitat, no wonder Hedgehog is frightened to talk to other neighbours. The closest animal to him are: Badger, who is the oldest and gathers berries in his spare time, Wolf who is the youngest and is speedy, Fox, who is sly and hunts other predators.

Whilst Hedgehog was hunting for food, he bumped into Badger.

“What do you think you’re doing?” questioned the badger in an angry tone.

“Whoops!” Hedgehog responded edging backwards as Badger was looming over him. “I…I’m sorry"
Badger began to kick Hedgehog ruthlessly. “Ouch, STOP THAT!”

“HA! HA!”
Limping back home, Hedgehog felt a deep red colour invade his face. Shocked, frightened, terrified, he was shaking with fear.

The next evening, Hedgehog was searching for an evening meal. Out of nowhere, the Wolf appeared. Whistling a happy tune, the Wolf banged heads with the Hedgehog.
“Ooooouch!” the Wolf cried.

“I…I’m sorry”

“Doesn’t look it!” Wolf began to kick Hedgehog.

“Ouch, STOP THAT!” pools of tears in his eyes threatened to burst their banks at any moment.

“HA! HA!”
Once again, the Hedgehog limped home. After crying himself to sleep, he woke up hungry. Whilst scanning the area he bumped into Fox!

“OI! WOT YOU DOIN!” Fox was furious.

“I…I’m sorry” Hedgehog muttered under his breath dropping his head.
Brutally the fox began to bully the him. He rushed to a hollow log and cried to himself.
Out of nowhere, a wizard appeared! Wizard noticed Hedgehog was crying and Hedgehog explained why he was furious and sad.

“I know how to stop that!” the Wizard frantically waved his wand. Suddenly, the Hedgehog had spikes!

Now whenever an animal tries to hurt him it will backfire and hurt them. From then on, Hedgehogs always have spikes to protect them from prey. Nowadays it is a distinctive feature.
