Today we learnt how to build shelter if you got lost in the woods.

A big part of creating this shelter was communication and collaboration. Making sure everybody knew what was going on and contributing was something our group did very well. I learned how to more effectively manage a team, as we bounced ideas around about where we should build and what type of structure we should build. We ended up doing a lot of this on the spot, which turned out really well and was good practice in resolving conflicts to quickly come to an agreement

One place I found amazingly beautiful so far at Loon Lake is the lake because it’s so smooth, almost like a mirror. Surrounded by trees it looks so peaceful.

Explain in 9-12 sentences how your DI Team worked together during the Advance. What worked? What didn&apos;t? What did you bring to the collaboration?What would you do differently next time?

During DI, I think we work well together while creating the script. There was a lot of collaboration with different ideas being implemented to improve the story. I brought a few ideas to the story myself, while also trying to manage the team. I tried to help others with their responsibilities while giving others responsibilities for themselves. Something I would try to do differently next time is to ask more people questions, to really try to get people engaged into the activity. This can be really hard because sometimes it can feel like giving people responsibilities is harder then just doing them yourself. Some other things I want to work on is improving at handling stressful situations while staying calm and using logic and critical thinking instead of impulse reactions. I can also struggle to know when to be critical when I know an idea won’t work, and when to be encouraging when a idea might work

Some of the core competencies I used during this activity was collaboration and communication. During this activity, I asked questions and listened to others about figure skating because I didn’t know much about it. It was interesting to hear the inside knowledge from someone who has competed in figure skating before. Things like how the scoring works, or when someone is doing good or bad that normal people just can’t see gave me a whole new appreciation for the sport. One of my strengths during this activity was being an attentive listener to what others have to say. Something I would try to work on next time would be asking more questions. More specifically asking questions that lead off others as it keeps the conversation flowing better.

During these activities, I used the core competencies communicating and collaborating. In Lazer tag we tried the strategy of staying in a group with the medic near by so we could continue fighting. Although this strategy didn’t work out in the long run, it still required collaboration and communication from multiple people to stay together and move as a group throughout the playing field. If I were to do this again, I would try be be more reflective. Think about what is working and what is not, then plan accordingly. I feel we didn’t do well because we went out with a plan, then when that plan didn’t work we failed to adapt. More communication between team members would also help as we could strategize more.

A C O M A D A T I O N S

I took all these photos duing our photo walk around the lake. I like these photos because they show the beauty of the surrounding area. I also like them because of the use camera effects like the panorama, and the editing I did to make the colours pop instead of the usual dull grey.

This trip tells me that future trips will be built around being an effective team. That was the main purpose of this learning advance and It will definitely continued to be worked on throughout PLP and on any future field trips we go on. Next field trip, I look forward to trying new experiences. The different activities like battle archery or some of the different foods we really fun and interesting since they are things I would do or try very often. I would also like to try and step out of my confort zone more and look for new experiences, but I also don’t want to overwhelm myself. Knowing when I can push on and when I should take a break could help with this on the next field study.

During the Learning rotation, we carried on with our work on the seven habits of being an effective human. I continued reading about the Private Victory, which consists of 3 habits; Be Proactive©, Begin With The End In Mind©, and Put First Things First ©. I now know that to be an effective human, you need to have a end goal. Having a end goal means instead if wandering around randomly, you can purposely shape and choose all other desicions to help get to that goal. I can apply this knowledge to help define and give my life more purpose.                

I am Most looking forward to just hanging out with my peers. Doing chill things like cards or just talking. There’s not always a lot of time to just chill and talk to new people, but when it does happen it’s always a great time, so I hope we will have at least a few moments to just chill with each other.

During this trip, I would like to focus and improve my collaboration, especially with people I haven’t worked with a lot. Collaboration as a group to accomplish something bigger is always really challenging, but I hope that I will be able to work on this skill throughout the trip.
