STEM

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEM integrates them into a cohesive learning model based on real-world applications.

What is Vex Robotics?

We built a robot. We took turns. 21 Pupils from 5th and 6th Class took part.

We followed the manual. We had problems with the sensors so Oran took it home to get his daddy to take a look. He made Cosmo work better but we never managed to get the sensors to work properly.

Then we started to master driving with the remote control. This took a lot of practice. But we have been getting better and better all the time.

What We Learnt

We talked about different types engineers such as mechanical, electrical and chemical.

We learned about robotics and discovered that Cosmo could be both teleoperated and autonomous.

We also explored the mechanisms that help Cosmo to work such as friction, levers, pulleys, motors, sensors and chain reactions.

We had to learn the rules of the competition. We had to read the Rule Manual to make sure we knew exactly how to score points fairly.

VEX Scrimmage, DKIT 2018

On the 12th of November we went to D.K.I.T for our Vex IQ Scrimmage. In the morning we were all ready for the bus at 8:50. We picked up students from Aston Village ETNS and headed to Dundalk.

While he talked to the teachers we completed maths sheets a friend, Aoife was the first one to get them all right so she received a special DKIT jersey. Then we started to learn about how to program our robot. As we were all very hungry we then had little break.

We discussed what Vex Robotics meant to us and learnt more about S.T.E.M. We all had a go at programming the robot after small break. After big break we had practice matches.

It was an amazing day!
