Why "George"town?
Rounded Rectangle
Georgetown was named after George Kennedy, an entrepreneur who settled in the area during 1823 by utilizing the water supply for milling purposes. His mill project resulted in a small settlement, and the Barber Brothers bought a wooden mill from Kennedy which resulted in further growth of Georgetown. Once the Barber Brothers also founded a papermaking business, and the Grand Trunk Railroad was developed, Georgetown became established.
Georgetown: Indigenous History
As stated by Webb (2021), Georgetown/Halton is on the "traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, part of the Anishinaabe Nation that extends from the Niagara Peninsula across Hamilton, Halton and Toronto to the Rouge River Valley."

Family History: Dad's Side
My dad's side of the family moved from Buffalo, New York, to Georgetown in 1975. My grandfather founded a transport company with two business partners, and they wanted to expand from the U.S. to Canada as well.

Family History: Dad's Side
The GO Train was set up in Georgetown in 1974, just prior to my grandparents' arrival. The GO Train allowed for further growth of Georgetown, as residents now had a transit option for downtown Toronto.
With the potential involved, my grandfather seized the opportunity to cater to an expanding economy with growing transport needs.

Family History: Dad's Side
My dad excelled in both academics and sports during high school, especially considering the fact that Georgetown has a prominent golf club named North Halton (pictured below - b/w is a photo from the 1970s, while the colour version is a current photo).
