Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge is located in the US and it connects Brooklyn and Manhattan, which are separated by the East River. It's one of the oldest hanging bridges in the world and  it's 1834 meters long.

Construction of the bridge began as early as January 3, 1870, and was completed and opened on May 24, 1883. It cost $15 million and during construction, as many as 27 people died. The bridge was designed by engineer John Augustus Roebling from Trenton. Unfortunately, he died shortly after construction began, so his son, Washington, continued his father's work. Now, the Brooklyn Bridge is ranked among the most famous structures in New York City. Additionally, it is known from many Hollywood movies.

The bridge's two suspension towers are 85 meters (278 feet) tall. They're made of &nbsp;limestone, granite and Rosendale cement.

Previously, the bridge served only two lanes of traffic - now there are six of them.

P.T. Barnum - a circus performer - led 21 elephants across this bridge to show it is safe.

The bridge has been shown in movies such as "Godzilla" and "Spider-man"
