They have an abdomen, thorax and head.
A butterfly is an insect.

Butterflies have six legs.
These are ways to classify butterflies.
I know that butterflies have wings.

Ecosystems
Butterflies need to live in the forest or garden so they can get what they need. They get food from flowers. They get shelter from leaves and tall grass. They get water from nectar. Butterflies must live in the correct ecosystem so they can live.

Adaptations
Proboscis, wings, and feet are three important physical characteristics of butterflies. They use their proboscis to suck up nectar.
They use their wings to fly. They have colorful wings.
They even use their feet to smell. Butterflies need all of these adaptations to survive.

Life Cycle

Just like any other animal, bugs also have a life cycle.

Butterflies start out as an egg.


Then they turn into a caterpillar.


After that a chrysalis.


Lastly they turn into a butterfly.
