Flag Symbol
The origin of the flag, its association with St. George (look at page 12)
It is known that English Crusaders used a red flag with a white cross about 1189. Another record, dating from 1277, attests that a red Cross of St. George on white was used for pennants flown by the troops of King Edward I.
The same flag, referred to as the Banner of Victory, was early shown in artistic representations of Christ

England shares the borders with Scotland to the north and west with Wales. To the northwest is the Irish Sea, to the southwest the Celtic Sea, to the east the North Sea and to the south is the English Channel Strait, which separates it from continental Europe. England encompasses almost the entire central and southern part of the island of Great Britain. The country has more than 100 smaller islands, such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.
