Adolescence Is an Important Time of Change
The word adolescence is Latin in origin, derived from the verb "adolescere" which means "To grow into adulthood" and it is the transitional period between childhood and adulthood from the ages of 10 and 20. Adolescence is a time of moving from the immaturity of childhood into the maturity of adulthood. There is no single event or boundary line that denotes the end of childhood or the beginning of adolescence. But experts think of the passage from childhood into adolescence as composed of a set of transitions that are biological, cognitive, social and emotional. Adolescence can bring up disorientation and issues of independence and self-identity. So many adolescents have to face choices regarding school, drugs, alchool and social life. Speaking with their parents of own changes can help adolescents to be great adults in future.
Parents can help by learning how to identify warning signs and taking a balanced approach to dealing with increasingly independent young people.

Healthy Parent-Child Relationships
The relationship between children and their parents is one of the most important relationships in a child’s life. In adolescence, this relationship changes as teens seek increased independence from their families and begin to make their own decisions. Although there are some confilcts between adolescents and their parents, adolescents need parents because they provide emotional support and set limits. There are many positive parenting techniques for parents who want to build stronger parent-child relationships. These are: creating an atmosphere of honesty, mutual trust and respect, developing a relationship that encourages teens to talk, teaching the importance of accepting limits. Adolescents are easily influenced by their peers but parents still play a large role. Positive parent-child relationships are associated with higher levels of adolescent self-esteem, happiness, and life satisfaction, and lower levels of emotional and physical distress.
