Message from your principal...
Dear Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of the SGE staff, I would like to welcome all of our students and families back to school! We would also like to extend a very special welcome to those joining us for the first time.

This book is to be used as a reference guide in hopes to answer questions and to ensure a smooth transition for the new school year. It also contains some action items on your part. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our students. I encourage you to review this book with your children.

The spiritual theme of the OCSB is, Gratitude Rooted in Joy, Fills Us With Hope (James 1:2-3 (NRSV)). Last year, our focus was gratitude. This year we are focusing on Joy. Joy is a condition of the heart – a spiritual peace and contentment that only comes from God, knowing that Jesus accompanies us and is always with us. Thank you for sharing your children with us as they provide us with a pure sense of joy.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out at (613) 728-8291 or by email at george@ocsb.ca. You are also encouraged to follow us on Twitter @StGeorgeOCSB to see updates and the happenings of our school.

We look forward to working with you and making this the best year yet!

Yours in Catholic education,

Ronda Eddy
Welcome new and returning dragons!
On Tuesday, September 6, our Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6 students will begin school. Teachers will be contacting families this week to introduce themselves. This way your child will know who their teacher(s) is/are and will know where to meet on the first day of school.

Our Kindergarten team will also be setting up appointment times for our new Kindergarten dragons. Our Junior Kindergarten students will not begin school until after their orientation session.

Class lists and split grades
Class lists are created in the late spring by your child's team of educators. There are many decisions to consider when determining class organizations and lists. Although we try to accomodate parent requests, this is not always possible. Rest assured that we do our best to place students where they will thrive. Although your child may not be placed with a particular friend this is not to be seen as a negative thing. School is a great place for students to branch out and meet new people; best friends are often made this way. This is a great message to share with your children. Please note that due to new registrations, changes can be made up until the first day of school.

This year, St. George we will have several combined-grade classes. We understand that many parents are concerned about their child being placed in a split grade class. When deciding who will best thrive in these environments we consider many factors. I encourage you to read this article about the benefits of combined-grade classes.
