TEAM Bembridge Virtual Visit with Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau

Before the PM joins the Zoom: As moderators, Willow and I will try to keep the conversation flowing easily, and be attentive to who is raising their hand. Once your hand is raised, please remember to focus on the virtual conversation until it is your turn. I know you aren't as familiar with Zoom Meetings, but like Google Meet, you will need to raise your hand digitally. Please keep your microphones muted, until you are called on. Once you have asked your question or added to the conversation, please remember to mute your Mic again. If for some reason you get bumped out of the zoom link, please be the awesome problem solver I know you to be. Quietly but efficiently, restart your Chromebook and log back into the zoom link. You don't have to worry about missing anything as our session is being recorded and we will have access to the recording. I would also remind you to ask speak loud and proud! We are in the classroom, where distancing is not possible, so Prime Minister Trudeau, will not have the benefit of being able to read our lips and see all of our non-verbal communication. We know this can makes the conversation more challenging so please speak clearly and confidently! Finally, listen carefully to Prime Minister Trudeau's answers, the comments of your classmates so that you can piggy back on questions and grow each other's ideas. Remember, you are speaking with the Prime Minister of Canada, the leader of our nation and an educator, all rolled into one! MS. B: Prime Minister Trudeau, Honorable Regan, Ms. Casey, I welcome you to one of the last few virtual gatherings of Team Bembridge for 2021. This is a great opportunity for Team Bembridge to showcase, not only some of their totally awesome public speaking skills and worldly perspective, but also how savvy they have become communicating and managing themselves virtually. Team Bembridge, while I share your excitement and energy, I am going to remind you that this visit will follow all of our well established classroom expectations. It is through learning and understanding the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, that we will be able to move forward in true partnership to build a better country.

We are learning on sacred&nbsp;land&nbsp;that has been the site of human activity for over 12 000 years. We are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, and we acknowledge them as the past, present, and future caretakers of this&nbsp;land. As learners and educators, we are grateful to study, grow, work, and build community here. As stewards of education and the future of Nova Scotia, we are in the process of learning more about how we can improve our relations with Indigenous People and uphold the values of collaboration and inclusivity in all that we do.&nbsp;

To the parents of Team Bembridge, thank you for cultivating the future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and peace keepers of Nova Scotia! Their questions and worldly perspective never cease to amaze! Your students are AWESOME! We would like to thank the Member of Parliament from Halifax West, the Honourable Geoff Regan for coordinating this opportunity with the Prime Minister of Canada. Thank you for working so hard to represent your riding and for bringing democracy to life for us and showing us that our voices matter!
