When did South Africa become a rainbow nation? After the end of Apartheid in 1994, when all people in South Africa were finally able to vote, Desmond Tutu first used the phrase Rainbow Nation about South Africa. President Nelson Mandela then used the phrase a month later and the idea developed from there.

This tradition comes from the 17th century&nbsp;when the French Huguenots and Dutch settlers cooked their meet on open fires.

After a hunt, the sun tribe took the meat and cut it in to pieces. They hung it in the sun to dry for up to two weeks. They added spices and vinegar to preserve it.  

The origine of this isn't clear, but many believe Indian merchants first served it in a Durban restaurant. It is made of meat, potatoes and sugar beans.

This fascinating little worm is a local delicacy for people in the northern parts of South Africa. Fifteen worms a day  give you all the calcium, iron and vitamin B2 you need.

Crime: It's an enormous problem. THe black and white middle-class communities live in fear. Approximately 13,000 children are arrested every month for crime. There are around 43 murders a day per 100,000 people.

AIDS: More than 5.6 million people in South Africa today are HIV-positive - that's about 10% of the total population. It has got the highest number of HIV/ AIDS cases in the world.

Western Cape: -You can watch whales and dolphins. -Swim with penguins. -You can observe the great white shark. -In Cape Town (the capital) you can visit Nelson Mandela's prison cell. - You can ride in the ccable car to the top of Table Mountain.

Northen Cape: -You can visit the Orange River. -And also yo can visit Augrabies Falls.

Eastern Cape: -You can see the Big Five. -You can visit Nelson Mandela's birthplace (Mvezo).

Kwazulu-Natal: -You can observe Zulu tribes in their natural environment.

Football: For a long time, prisoners weren't allowed to play football on Robben Island, so they made their own balls and played in their cells in secret. Finally, in 1965, the situation changed and prisoners were permitted to play football.

Cricket: It is South Africa's second most popular sport. The Proteas is the name of the country's national team. In the past, mostly English-speaking whites and Indian South Africans played cricket, but this is slowly changing. More and more black people are starting to take up cricket at a young age.

Rugby: The Springboks, South Africa's national rugby team, take their name from the country's national animal-a kind of deer. In the past, rugby was considered a white man's sport, played by Afrikaners, but today, it's a game for all, and once again South Africa competes internationally.

Kruger National Park is an enourmous game reserve in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces in the north of South Africa. Many visitors stay aat small hotels inside the park and go on safari hoping to see the Big Five:

The art of South Africa is characterized by the brigth colors. They use beaded jewellery, everything is hand made.

South Africa is the land of gold and diamonds. But although these natural resources brought a lot of wealth to the country, they also brought many social and political problems.🤬😡
