THE FALL

Suddenly my feet became lighter. As I passed the shoe cubbies I found an umbrella just waiting there.&#160;

The next thing I knew my world was spinning. In the next instant, I was on the ground and looking back, I could see my bicycle on top of me.&#160; “Are you OK?” I heard Uni say. “Yeah”, I lied. “Oh my gosh, you are bleeding!” Uni’s clever little sister said. Without looking I said, “It’s nothing.&#160; It’s only a flesh wound.” I just&#160; wanted to get out of there.

Coming back out of the school I saw Uni’s family and said goodbye. I could taste the Cashew Chicken Stirfry that&#160; I would be ordering in just a few minutes.

I wasn’t. I just wanted to get out of there. So when the light turned green,&#160; I rode as fast as I could in the rain. But I held the umbrella in my hand&#160; this time.

Mmm, every day is a good day for Thai food and it would taste especially&#160; good today since I was feeling&#160; so beat.&#160; “Sure”, I replied.

I started to ride away from the&#160; school, towards home. the&#160; umbrella was again hanging from my handlebars, so I moved the umbrella slightly.

Armed with a nice umbrella I walked&#160; to my bike to move it to a place where&#160; it wouldn’t be rained on. While outside though I noticed that it wasn’t raining hard. Maybe I could just ride my bike home.&#160; Since it wasn’t raining that hard, I&#160; hung the umbrella from the handlebars.&#160;

A student, Uni, was standing there.&#160; “Take it”, she said. “It’s no one’s.”&#160; “No, I couldn’t do that.” “It’s fine, you can return it on Tuesday.” So I took it.&#160;

My whole body was sore, but I rode&#160; to the intersection and waited for the light.&#160; “You are bleeding!” I heard someone yell. “I’m alright,” I said smiling.&#160;

It was a Friday evening and I was feeling tired from a long week.&#160;

I was looking forward to the weekend after my noisy club had just ended.&#160;

I was straightening my classroom when my wife texted me.&#160;

“Those drummers are pretty good, but there’s a lot of work to do”, I thought.

“Shall we meet at the Thai restaurant?”&#160;

Walking down the stairs I thought about what to do with the rain. I remembered I rode my bike to school in the morning. “Darn!” I thought. “That will be a wet ride home.” But what if I left my bike at school and took the train home?&#160; Yes!&#160; I could pick my bike up tomorrow.

I was straightening my classroom&#160; when my wife texted me.&#160; “Shall we meet at the Thai restaurant?” she asked.

Walking down the stairs I thought about what to do with the rain. I remembered I rode my bike to school in the morning.&#160;

It was a Friday evening and I was feeling tired from a long week.&#160; I was looking forward to the&#160; weekend after my noisy beginning&#160; band club had&#160;just ended.&#160;

I left my classroom and headed for the stairs. Oh no! someone forgot to put the paints away.&#160; While I was putting the plastic plates&#160; in the cupboard, I glanced outside to see that it was&#160;still raining.&#160;

As I was unlocking and locking the&#160; gate again to gain freedom I noticed&#160; my feet felt funny.&#160; Oh no! I had forgotten to change out of my indoor shoes! I was so elated to be going home that&#160; I didn’t mind riding to the front of the school to go back in to change. The umbrella was swinging back and forth. I got to the front of the school, jumped off my bike and ran inside the school.
