Tír na nÓg

by Pia McCann

Tír na n-óg
A long time ago, there was a young man called Oisín. He was a warrior in the Fianna, an Irish army.
One day, a girl called Níamh appeared before Oisín on a horse. They quickly fell in love. She invited him to come with her to a magical land called Tír na nÓg, where she promised him the gift of staying young forever.
Oisín and Níamh travelled across the sea to Tír na nÓg and lived very happily there. They had three children together. But soon, Oisín began to miss home in Ireland.
Oisín went on his way, to return to Ireland. Níamh gave him a warning. She told him not to get off the horse, and not to touch the irish soil.
When Oisín reached home, he realise a long time had passed since he had left, a lot longer than he thought. It had been 300 years since he had left for Tír na nÓg. All his friends and family were gone.
