MY ERASMUS+ TRIP TO FUNCHAL,MADEIRA
KAROLINA DASOVIĆ, TEACHER
The most exciting trip I have ever taken was my trip to Funchal, Madeira, in March 2023. It was Erasmus+ one-week mobility. The beautiful island of Madeira is situated in the Portuguese archipelago. The capital city Funchal is a colourful collection of beautiful and breathtaking scenery, gardens, religious sites and tourist attractions. In addition to the stunning views, Funchal's famous cuisine and relaxing promenades made my stay there unforgettable. If you are more of an adventurous and energetic type, the opportunities are endless with so much to choose from: levada walking, mountain walks, hiking, sailing, whale and dolphin watching, scuba-diving. What surprised me the most was the hospitality of the local people.
If you are seeking a relaxing holiday, Madeira boasts world-class hotels and a glorious climate with sandy beaches and lava polls at Porto Santo and Porto Moniz.
I really enjoyed exploring the island, discovering their culture and visiting famous sights and I would certainly recommend this destination to everyone.
"Balcao" in Ribeiro Frio- the most stunning view
One of the most famous attractions in Funchal is definitely the Christiano Ronaldo statue and museum, conveniently located near the seaside in the city centre.
MY TRIP TO OMIŠ
Last summer my family and I went on a holiday to a small town near Omiš. We have been visiting Omiš for a several years now and we really love it there. Omiš is a relatively small town but with a lot of tourists, just like the entire Adriatic coast. When I first visited Omiš, I didn’t like it, but as the years went by I really fell in love with the tranquility and inexplicable stability of Omiš.
In Omiš you can do all kinds of activities, such as windsurfing, zipline, rafting, but also sightseeing, trying local food and simply enjoying a walk in the old town of Omiš.
The most interesting thing about Omiš to me is how people there are historically tied to their city. Every year, on 18th August, the Omiš town port holds a historical re-enactment of a pirate battle. We spent a few summers there just in time for the presentation of the battle and it’s really something worth seeing.
The biggest advantages of visiting a small town are that more time and energy can be invested in socializing in general, but also getting to know the details and creating intimacy with the town.

Split and the Seven Dwarfs
After what seemed like forever, I finally reached my destination. Driving along mountain roads impressed me quite a bit. Behind all of that, there was a tiny and pretty quiet town, actually seven of them. Like seven dwarfs, there are seven so called Kaštels that are inviting more and more people every year. With their mediteranian climate and quite magnificent seaside, towns are interesting to locals, but also to the people all around the globe. Although it can sometimes be a bit boring and quiet in the winter, when the summer starts Kaštels get a completely new shine with all of its absolutely fascinating culture, traditions and manifestations.

It's not always particularly inviting for the younger people because there are not that many places to go out, but Split is approximately 20 minutes away, which is a big plus, because you are still fairly near the main events, but not in the centre of everything. People there are mainly focused on the sea and life in symbiosis with sea which includes sailing, fishing and, of course, swimming and enjoying the summer months filled with sunny and hot days. Those activities are great for people who like to get away from extremely loud and sometimes overwhelming cities and reality, and instead spend their days in fairly small, but absolutely fascinating place.
After a pretty tiring journey in 30 degree weather I arrived to Rovinj at around two o' clock. The sun was burning hot but the splashing at the sea made up for it. There were lots of narrow streets with stone paths that turned slippery and shiny from all the walking. There were also lots of little souvenir shops and empty cafes that started to slowly fill up as the sun went down. The sea is on the west side of the city but no tourists were swimming, considering only locals were knowledgeable and skillful enough to climb down the rocky sides.
The slippery streets of Rovinj
All in all it's a lovely city to enjoy on chilly summer nights where you can definitely pick up some souvenirs and enjoy the powerful sea waves.

What I recommend doing is waiting until the sun sets to go to a lovely restaurant. And definitely walk there so you don't miss the beautiful architecture.
