How has the Geography of the West shaped who we are?

Reflection 8: The Golden Skybridge 1. Geography in this situation would be human environment interaction. The land around it made it so they could put in the sky bridge and attract tourists. The people work with the land and have created an amazing and fun park. 2. There is a decent amount of economic influence with the golden sky bridge. A lot of reason why people visit Golden is because of the sky bridge. And when people visit the sky bridge they would often visit the village as well which supports the local businesses. 3. I’ve always wanted to do the mountain coaster and I’ve seen it on a lot of social media platforms. It was suppppeerrr fun to go on it and it was one of the most exiting parts of the trip!

Reflection 1: The Last Spike Photo 1. Geography is location, it’s a direct representation of how we view a location and how we perceive it. The location of something influences the geographic landscape around it. 2. You could see it perceived as political since it’s connected to the railroad and the railroad is probably the most political thing since it’s one of the reasons that Canada has a government. 3. I think that the reason that i connect with this photo is because i like finding historical things. Sometimes me and my dad go on hikes to try and find historical artifacts up Seymour and i guess I’m always looking for clues towards if something is old or not in use anymore. And this was hidden away and obviously not in use.

Silent Video: This is my silent video that we created when we visited three valley gap host town. We focused on showing stories through moving pictures. Our criteria was that it couldn’t have talking, it had to be a video that was 2-4 minutes long and it had to have every member of the group included in it

Reflection 3: Cave and Basin National Historic Site In your descriptive reflection here, connect how the photo on the last page shows the following: 1. Human environment interaction is definitely important in this location. It’s the reason why we got to visit it and why we get to learn about it. 2. There was a lot of political influence on Cave and basin. The government took over the ownership of cave and basin and made it the fist national park. Which directly influenced how Canada is today and the pristine nature that we offer. 3. I connect with cave and basin because it’s the reason why we have national parks today and i really enjoy being on nature and hiking. I also have a cabin that resides in an national park so i guess they influence me in more ways that I knew

Reflection 9: The Revelstoke Railway Museum 1. Geography is movement. It’s kinda crazy on how Canada became the country it is today just because of a railway! The railway moved resources, people and ideas through the west and completely shaped it at the same time. 2. You could say that this pretty political, the railway was created so the canadien government could have more power over the surrounding provinces. Most of the high ranking Canadien officials where involved in the making of the cpr! The cpr also made it so some small villages would be created which was growing Canada as a country 3. My dad leads tours through the rocky mountaineer train and guess where that train runs through? The CPR! So seeing on how everything was all pieced together was pretty cool!

Reflection 7: Lake Louise 1. Geography in this area was directly influenced by lake Louise and it’s region that was created. The lake Louise region is one of the most famous places in the world and it’s one of the reasons why people visit Alberta. It’s one of the most visited places in the world. 2. There’s definitely a lot of social aspects of Lake Louise. (I mean it is the most photographed lake in the world) Think about all those soccer moms and instagram influencers who visit the lake every year! The lake in general has a huge social influence of the people of Canada. 3. My dad is a tour guide and he often leads tours to the Rockies. He always talks about this lake. He also has stayed in the hotel along the lake so I connect a lot with this location!

Reflection 2: Rogers Pass In your descriptive reflection here, connect how the photo on the last page shows the following: 1. In this specific photo i think that it’s signifying geography in the form of movement. Because the moment of the trains as the reason that rogers pass was needed in the first place. 2. A.B Rogers was the person who found the pass and was the one to report it. It’s interesting to think that this one little discovery was the reason that the railroad was able to pass through the Rockies. 3. The pass is one of the reasons that the we where able to create the cpr. And the cpr is the reason why my province is part of Canada. If the pass didn’t exist then i probably wouldn’t be living where i am now and I probably wouldn’t have existed in the first place.

Photo 1: The Last Spike This photo shows location. The specific location of this river was the reason it was built. The location f the river influenced the changing of the surrounding terrain. It’s also the movement of the train was the reason why this was needed to be built.

Reflection 5: Lake Minnewanka Boat Cruise 1. The geography of lake Minnewanka is probably best described by location. The geography around the lake was really changed because of the lake, i mean a whole town was put underwater because of the lake. Dams where also built and powered entire communities just because of the location of the lake. 2. This lake surprisingly has a lot of historical significance. One of the dams was purely built by children! The dam was built by a company that was supposedly using it to power machines in World War II. Weirdly enough it never ended being used to power the war but instead powering local communities. 3. To be honest this photo really was pretty important to me. This was the first bright blue lake that I had ever seen. When I found out that we where going to Alberta the lakes where one of the first things that I thought about. I took a lot of photos when we visited but this one was one of my favorites.

Photo 3: Cave and Basin National Historic Site

Cave and basin shows human environment interaction. The cave was originally found by the local indigenous, but white colonizers found it again a couple thousand years later. They created an entrance to the hot springs that are now accessible by the public.  

Reflection 6: The Columbia Ice Field 1. The Colombia Ice field shows movement in many ways. The moment of the Arthabaska glacier has changed the surrounding mountains and created a valley. The glacier losing parts of it and become ink smaller is also technically a form of movement. You couple say that that would be the most important part of understanding this part of the assignment. The glacier disappearing would change the entirety of North America 2. The social interaction is really important for this location. The protection of the glaciers is only possible by the contribution of the public. The tours offer so people can learn about the glaciers and how important it is to help protect them. If we didn’t have people protecting the glaciers the the situation could possibly be worse. You could also say that it’s political as well since a lot of funding to pay for the roads to get there is government. 3. I learnt a LOT on the Icefields trip. Our tour guide was incredibly informational and I learnt a ton of things I didn’t know about climate change. EX: I didn’t really know that the world cycles through warming and cooling periods. Because I’ve heard it mentioned before but I wasn’t sure if it was true. I also learned a lot about the ice crevasses, and how dangerous they are. It was also so cool to taste real glacier water straight from, well a glacier!

TikTok style video: These videos where all based on TikTok trends or just in a TikTok format. We had show stuff about our Alberta trip and our travels. Our Criteria was that the video needed to be a TikTok style video. We had a couple examples that we could go off of.

Investigative Video: When we were in Alberta we actually had to conduct interviews with random people in the public! Before we left we created a thesis and we had to base our interview questions off of it. We visited many different locations and hikes so we had a lot of opportunities to conduct the interviews. Our criteria was that it had to be 2-6 minutes long and it had to have a stand up explanation of what it is that were looking at.
