What are the seasons ? Why do we have them ?
As the earth spins on its axis, producing night and day, it also moves about the sun in an elliptical (elongated circle) orbit that requires about 365 1/4 days to complete. The earth's spin axis is tilted with respect to its orbital plane. This is what causes the seasons. When the earth's axis points towards the sun, it is summer for that hemisphere. When the earth's axis points away, winter can be expected. Since the tilt of the axis is 23 1/2 degrees, the North Pole never points directly at the Sun, but on the summer solstice it points as close as it can, and on the winter solstice as far as it can. Midway between these two times, in spring and autumn, the spin axis of the earth points 90 degrees away from the sun. This means that on this date, day and night have about the same length: 12 hours each, more or less.
Winter
The New Year begins with winter, so we will tell you about it first. Winter is the coldest time of the year in polar and temperate climates. It occurs after autumn and before spring.Winter landscapes are truly fascinating.Musicians are inspired by this time of year. For example, listen to what Vivaldi composed, isn't this music exciting?
When it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa. In many regions, winter brings snow and freezing temperatures. The moment of winter solstice is when the Sun's elevation with respect to the North or South Pole is at its most negative value; that is, the Sun is at its farthest below the horizon as measured from the pole. The day on which this occurs has the shortest day and the longest night, with day length increasing and night length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice.
Spring
Spring is the season when cold winter temperatures gradually rise to the warmth of summer. Spring begins on the vernal equinox, when the hours of daylight are equal to the hours of darkness. In the Northern Hemisphere this occurs on March 20 or 21. In the Southern Hemisphere it happens September 22 or 23.Listen what Vivaldi compose for this season
Spring is a time of new plant growth. It is also when animals become active again after the winter. They begin to nest and to reproduce.
In many cultures spring festivals are held to celebrate the time of renewal.Overall, spring is a time of hope and rejuvenation after the long winter months.Look at the video below
