MERCURY THERMOMETER -
A Mercury Thermometer consists of a glass bulb that is filled with a liquid substance called Mercury. A Scale is also written on the Glass Tube. This Scale shows the exact point till where the Mercury has reached. Example, in the following diagram, it show that the Mercury is at 37*C.
So, I think you may have understood the structure of a Mercury Thermometer. Now let's see how it works:-
The Temperature is measured in Celsius as well as Fahrenheit. Imagine, if a place's temperature is 27*C. When you keep your thermometer out in the open for a while, and come back and look at the scale, the Mercury must be at 27*C. But, how is that possible?

Well, when the temperature of the surrounding increases, the temperature of Mercury inside the glass tube also increases. This causes the Mercury to expand. The Mercury keeps going up until it reaches the point where it can't increase more. This is how the temperature is recorded globally.
These are the parts of a Mercury Thermometer:-

Now, let us take a look at the Mercury Barometer:-
The Mercury Thermometer is upside down in a pool of Mercury below it. It works like this:- The Air Pressure in the Atmosphere pushes the Mercury more does. This causes the Mercury to go up and record the point of Air Pressure on the scale.
Did you Know:-
The Atmospheric Pressure is measured in Atmospheres (ATM)!!!
The Atmospheric Pressure is measured in Atmospheres (ATM)!!!
The Mercury Barometer is same as the Mercury Thermometer except the fact that the Mercury Barometer records the Atmospheric Pressure while the Mercury Thermometer measures the temperature with the help of the heat.
Let's take a look at the different parts of the Mercury Barometer:-

In the recent times, Mercury Barometers, Digital Barometers, Cistern and Angle Barometers are used
Do you know about a Rain Gauge?? Heard of it?? No? Let me tell you about it. Have you seen a cup like instrument in your society when it is raining? No? Never Mind, let me tell you
A Rain Gauge is a cup like Instrument with a funnel inside it. It basically collects and measures the amount of rain.
The working of the Rain Gauge is simple-
The working of the Rain Gauge is simple-
The Rain Gauge has a circular open upwards. The raindrops enter inside from that point. Inside, there is a funnel. The water goes through the funnel, and gets stored at the bottom of the Rain Gauge. Starting from the bottom is a scale which is used to measure the amount of rain. The water is measured in millimetres (MM)
