About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is covered by water. Almost all of this water (97%) is contained in the world’s seas and oceans. More than half of our bodies are made up of water. Water is a big part of who we are and how we live. Without water, human life as we know it could not exist. Yet, believe it or not water is becoming more scarce and human beings are it’s single greatest threat.

How does climate change impact the Earth's water?
Extreme weather events are making water more scarce, more unpredictable, and more polluted.

1. Flooding can damage land and crops while the saltwater or polluted water can contaminate them.

2. Melting ice caps and glaciers pose a danger to marine mammals native to the Arctic are who uniquely adapted to life in icy waters. Animals such as bowhead whales, polar bears, beluga whales, and walruses rely on the year round or seasonal presence of sea ice. The increase in temperature of the oceans and melting of ice caps directly effects the survival of these animals.

3. Increased temperatures on earth mean more drought particularly in countries which already have hot climates such as Africa. Drought can have a devastating effect on these countries by limiting people's supply of fresh clean water.
What is Water conservation and how can it help?
Water is precious and it is under threat due to climate change. Water conservation refers to the ways in which we can be more efficient with our use of water. It means recognising how precious and important water is and making an effort to waste less. How can we put water conservation into action in our everyday lives?
How can we conserve water?
1. Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth - only turn it on when you need it rather than leaving it running.
2.Take a shower rather than a bath and keep it short!
3. Keep water in the fridge rather than running the tap for cool water
