INTRODUCTION
WWII was one of the most devastating wars of all time. The war changed the world in many ways; huge military losses, destruction of cities and demolition. This essay will tell you about what happened in WWII in chronological order.

One of the main reasons WWII happened is because Hitler became the dictator of Germany. He came into power because he told the Germans that they were a master race and they would rule over all the other races. He also came into power because he had control over the Nazi party, a fascist polictial party.

Later when Hitler launched the attack on Poland (more commonly known as “The Blitz”.) France and England thought Hitler had taken it too far. Once Germany conquered Poland, England & France declared war on Germany.

Soon after Germany conquered Poland, Hitler formed the tripartite pact with Italy & Imperial Japan. Italy, Japan & Germany each took over other countries. Japan took over parts of China. Germany took over Austria, and Italy took over Ethiopia. But Hitler still wanted even more land so they launched an attack on the Soviet Union, their former ally. It turned out to be a fatal mistake, because they ended up battling the giant Soviet army and the cold Russian winter. It also secured them a new enemy, with the Soviet Union joining the global fight against Germany.

When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor 2,403 people died. 19 U.S. navy ships including 8 battleships and 3 aircraft carriers were destroyed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. America declared war on Germany the very next day

After the U.S. joined the war, the war hit the turning point with the U.S. battling in 3 “theaters” of war. One was the Pacific theater to fight Japan. The 2nd theater was the Mediterranean theater to fight Italy. The last theater was the European theater, sending a massive fleet of Americans, British and Canadians to fight in France. That was called the “D-day Invasion” 1,465 American troops died in the battle as well as 10,000 Axis troops. When D-day happened and it was clear that the Axis powers would lose, a year or so later Hitler took his own life. The Allies had won the war!

World war 2 was the biggest war of all time. It resulted in large military losses, cities destroyed, and it left people with family in different countries. It also had a huge impact on the world and everything in it. Some countries came out of the war feeling empowered and others came out feeling shamed and looked down on. Today people look back on WWII and hope WW III never happens.

Women During World War II

INTRODUCTION
Can you imagine everything changing suddenly? That a lot of the people you love were gone or going away? That’s what a lot of women had to deal with after the U.S entered World War II. After most of the fathers, husbands and sons were gone, a lot of jobs needed to be filled in for, and bosses were paying WAY more than usual because of the needed jobs that the war left.

Causes of the War
Adolf Hitler wanted to take over countries and make them fit his ideal race ideas. He started by taking over Czechoslovakia while the Allied leaders just stood there and watched. But when he invaded Poland, Britain and France declared war.
Then, Hitler formed an alliance with Italy and Japan; they called themselves the Axis Powers. At this point, the U.S had still remained techianally neutral ( even though they supplied the British with guns ) and didn’t want to fight again because of the 40 million people worldwide who had died in World War II.
But when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor trying to make the U.S stay out of the war, their plan backfired, and the next day the U.S declared war.

Women Start Getting Jobs
Even though women got the right to vote in 1919, they were still seen as delicate and not as good as men. But with most of the eligible men away fighting the U.S needed artillery, and we needed a lot of it. Now that they can vote everywhere, those same women that were seen as inanimate objects 20 years ago, they realize that they can do so much more than just sit at home and cook and clean! Of course not all women’s husbands wanted them to work, but the U.S needed workers for their jobs. When we first entered the war, ( partially because we gave Britain all our guns) the U.S did not have enough weapons.

We needed artillery and with a lot of the people who made it at war, companies started offering a higher wage. ( Some companies still didn’t want to hire women, but they didn't really have a choice) As Penny Colman put it in her book Rosie the Riveter, “As school teacher a woman earned $0.75 an hour, but as a shipyard worker she earned $1.25!” Of course the conditions weren’t perfect, but they were still getting more money than they did previously!

Fun fact: More than 10 million women joined the war effort in WWII!

Working Still
While factories kept churning out weapons, the war was still going strong in Europe with a famous attack called D Day with at least 15,000 casualties. Everyone was still going strong but
because jobs paid higher, a lot more people were moving to cities that had factories with jobs which meant cities were getting overcrowded.

Also on the downside, since a lot of people were moving to big cities that already had a big population, the newcomers had to live in tiny apartments, R.Vs, and trailers rather than a house. A lot of people were leaving their jobs that were important like school teachers, secretaries, and other not so exciting jobs, so some businesses had to close their doors.

But, that’s not even the worst part. Women were subject to unfair pay, harassment, and barely any breaks at their so-called “Miracle Jobs”. But they kept going on strong and never gave up!

Did you know that World War II lasted for 6 years and 1 day before Germany surrendered!

Grace Hopper was a great role model for working women because she was a professor for 10 years before she decided to follow in her great-grandfather’s footsteps and join the Navy in December of 1943.
When she finally got to the Bureau of Ships Computation Project at Harvard, she was given 1 week to learn how to use one of the most complicated machines ever! ( IBM Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator aka the MARK )

Before we entered the war, computers were just for solving mathematical equations, but then, Grace Hopper and a lot of other people at Harvard helped to refine computers to calculate where rockets would land. After the war, Grace stayed in the Navy and became a rear admiral. “ If it’s a good idea, go ahead and do it. It’s much easier to apologize than it is to get permission”- Grace Hopper

                   CONCLUSION
Even though the war effort was difficult, and the conditions of work weren’t perfect and could be dangerous, women showed that they can work just like men if given the chance. And while their lives were being turned upside down, women showed bravery and still do in all their situations. No dictator or war could ever silence their power and might!

Introduction
Have you ever imagined what it was like during World War II? It was a chaotic time. And a lot of violence. There was a lot of hatred between the Axis powers and the Allied powers. Have you ever heard of Adolf Hitler? He was the dictator of Germany. He was a terrible man. He started World War II. He was part of the Axis powers. All the people who didn’t listen to Adolf Hitler were going to get in trouble. In this article I will be talking about all the important events that happened during World War II.
World War II was between 1939-1945 that's 6 years!

How It Started
World War II started on September 2nd, 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. After that, Great Britain and France declared war on Germany. That was the start of World War II. The United States sent weapons, supplies, etc. But it didn’t really make a difference because the United States wouldn’t send troops or declare war with Great Britain and France. Then the United States tried to stop Japanese expansion. They ended all contact with Japan. This led to the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
