When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor 2,403 people died. 19 U.S. navy ships including 8 battleships and 3 aircraft carriers were destroyed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. America declared war on Germany the very next day

After the U.S. joined the war, the war hit the turning point with the U.S. battling in 3 “theaters” of war. One was the Pacific theater to fight Japan. The 2nd theater was the Mediterranean theater to fight Italy. The last theater was the European theater, sending a massive fleet of Americans, British and Canadians to fight in France. That was called the “D-day Invasion” 1,465 American troops died in the battle as well as 10,000 Axis troops. When D-day happened and it was clear that the Axis powers would lose, a year or so later Hitler took his own life. The Allies had won the war!

World war 2 was the biggest war of all time. It resulted in large military losses, cities destroyed, and it left people with family in different countries. It also had a huge impact on the world and everything in it. Some countries came out of the war feeling empowered and others came out feeling shamed and looked down on. Today people look back on WWII and hope WW III never happens.
