Our year five pupils attended the Aspire Games in Par. This interschool event involved teams being made up across from the school populations and focused on developing co-operation and team building. Our pupils had a great time and worked well with others.

Year six had an amazing time in Bristol on a combined school residential with St.Mawes Pupils. Highlights included Za,za's restaurant, the Sky rider wheel, visiting the SS Great Britain, constructing bridges at the Clifton Suspension Bridge, games in the park, drawing the landmarks, the giant's cave and singing along to Mama Mia at the Bristol Hippodrome! It was a very special time and one pupils will always remember with fondness.

Nursery Leadership and New Appointment for EYFS Lead

Mrs Bowles will sadly be leaving us for a new position working for "Wild" Young parents project. We wish her all the best in this exciting position. Mrs Griffen has been appointed to lead the Nursery setting and this will be a fulltime position giving continuity to the provision. Mrs Griffen has many years experience in early years education and is eager to meet our families. She is attending sessions for handover and will contact you soon.

This month we have also appointed Mrs Julie Jones to replace Miss Guy and continue the development of our EYFS and reception class. Mrs Jones is currently at Fowey Primary school and will commence her position in September. She is an experienced teacher with an excellent knowledge of early years development. Miss Guy is moving to a position at Truro Nursery School and we wish her all the best in this new setting and are grateful for all the commitment and energy she has given to our pupils and school.

New Appointments and Staff Changes in Key Stage One

We are delighted to be welcoming Kirsten Gordon to our teaching assistant team. She has been volunteering and studying at our school for nearly two years and is a great support for our pupils. Sadly Miss Hall will also be leaving us at the end of term to become the Nursery lead at Shortlanesend. Miss Hall has been a part-time teacher at Probus school for several years and our lead for modern foreign languages. We wish her well in her new post.

Dear Parents The Platinum Jubilee was a wonderful community celebration our pupils will remember for many years. Many thanks to the committee for supporting our events and providing funding for commemorative badges and circus skills workshops. The ice-creams were delicious and the children loved hosting the afternoon tea. We hope you enjoyed the singing, dancing and competitions. This month has been one of adventures! We have been participating in sporting events and our teams have been very successful. Pupils have attended residentials near and far. It has been a joy to return to the full curriculum of events, unhampered by restrictions, and to see the pupils embrace the social activities they have missed over the past two years. The children have quickly grown in confidence and are thriving with the return of the freedoms we once took for granted. Music Lessons If your child wishes to play a musical instrument then please sign them up via the <a href="https://www.cornwallmusicservicetrust.org/">Cornwall Music Service Trust </a>website. We currently have keyboard, piano, violin, cello and guitar!

The Roseland interschools football competition returned this month and our team performed magnificently. They won their matches against Gerran, Grampound Road and Gorran. They drew one all with Tregony. This put them in first place in the competition!

Special Event - Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Memory Tea

It was such a joy to have the community visiting us to celebrate the Jubilee. Pupils benefitted from talking with people of all ages and were praised for their manners, excitement and curiosity. The ice-cream van was a big hit and there were plenty of treats for all.

Year four pupils returned to school on the evening of 9th June for a special barbecue and residential in our school hall. In the morning (some rising very early!) they prepared their packed lunches and headed off to Fistral beach. Unfortunately our surf lesson was not possible (as the red flags were flying) but undaunted, the pupils played beach games supported by Global Boarders Surf Company who kept the energy flowing all day.

Petition for Uniform change. I have received a number of letters requesting I change the pupil footwear and permit trainers as everyday wear in school. The pupils argued that the shoes are more durable. "School uniform prevents playing sports and we love sports." "Cheap school shoes don't last very long and have to be replaced quickly." "Our parents get annoyed when we ruin our shoes and tell us not to play sports in them." "School shoes are not very comfortable and have buckles and laces." "90 per cent of us would prefer trainers." "Velcro is noisy." As the arguments have been so persuasive I have agreed that black, non branded trainers maybe worn during the day from September. I agree that taking part in sports is very important. I have however expressed that trainers, if overtly branded, can be far too expensive and a fashion statement rather, than a practical shoe. Only black would be acceptable as uniform with discrete or no branding. The main manufacturers are producing some very reasonably priced shoes that do not focus on logos and are sold as school trainers for both girls and boys.

School lunches can be booked daily, weekly, monthly or termly on Parent Pay and cost £2.35. If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 they are entitled to Universal Free school Meals. If you think you may be entitled to Free School Meals click <a href="https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/schools-and-education/schools-and-colleges/school-meals/">HERE </a>to check your eligibility and make an application.

This event gave further opportunity for pupils to have fun and build confidence through physical activity and inter school sport. They competed against schools from Truro and the Roseland in athletics and team challenges.

Persistent absence and requests for holiday authorisation. It is vital pupils attend school regularly and we will always seek to support families who request help with attendance. Please be aware attendance is monitored closely and persistent absence and prolonged absence could result in a financial penalty. Holiday during term time will not be authorised.

Lateness Pupils are expected to enter via the gates with their friends to class. If you are delayed please bring your child to reception and explain the reason for late arrival. Being on time supports your child's learning, calm entry into school and means all pupils can commence lessons together.

Reporting Absences If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, then please inform the office before 9am in the morning, and let us know why your child is going to be absent, and when you expect them to return. You may either phone the office on 01726 882647 and leave a message or alternatively send an email to hello@probusschool.org.uk When reporting an absence, please leave a message on each day of your child's absence, telling us: - Your child's name -Year group - Why they are absent (Type of illness e.g sickness, migraine) - When you expect them to return

Parent Pay Please remember to add funds to your child's Parent Pay account and clear any incurred debt. You will receive a weekly text reminder when the account goes over £10. Contact Mrs Senior in the school office if you need to discuss your account.

Lost Property Please remember to name ALL items for your child - clothing, lunch boxes, drinks bottles. There is a box in main reception area if you wish to check for missing items.

The PTA are holding a family Bingo evening.&nbsp;Doors open at 6pm, eyes down 6.30pm. £8 a book There will also be an Irish&nbsp;bingo, Raffle and Refreshments. Bring the family!

We are loving the sunshine and warm weather and the outdoor learning opportunities it gives the children. It's really important that children come to school equipped for the weather.

Please can children come to school with sun cream already applied. Please bring a hat, preferably one which covers your child's ears. Please bring a refillable bottle of water for you child to drink. It's really important that it is water children drink during the day, rather than squash, so that they keep their teeth healthy!
