History in year six: We used a census and police reports to find out more about some criminal children. We have also explored the question, 'Did the sun ever set on the British Empire?', compared the Roman Empire to the British Empire AND explored whether the Empire was good for everyone!

No children's mobile phones permitted in school

From September we will not be permitting children to bring mobile phones to school. This includes events such as school discos, school residentials and kids club. Smart watches are also not permitted or any device that can record others or access the internet without our filtering system. Tablets, ipads and gaming devices cannot not be brought from home into the school setting. Any items found will be kept in the office and retained, until collected by a parent. We would appreciate your support in this matter to assist "being safe" in school. Online safety is an every growing issue for our young people and as parents and educators we must constantly be vigilant and inform ourselves of advances. The NSPCC has excellent advice on protecting your child. <a href="https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/">Keeping children safe online | NSPCC</a> Facebook, Instagram, Yello, Whats app, TikTok access is not safe for Primary pupils (age limit 13 plus) and all phone and internet access should be monitored closely by a parent.

Although charming, large impractical headbands are not suitable for school. Please ensure all head bands are practical, discrete and without pom-poms, ears etc.

PE "T" shirts for lessons and after school clubs should be completely plain white cotton with no branding.

For safety reasons only small stud earings maybe worn to school if needed. No other jewellery is permitted. An analogue and digital watch is permitted but no smart watches.

Dear Parents Our new pupils have settled so well into Nursery and reception class and everyone has made a great transition to their new classes. This year we have been able to have our meet the teacher sessions and plan for a full calendar of events. Please see the website for advance dates. Our parental consultations are looming up so please book online. I have some exciting news to share that Mrs Wooley is expecting. She intends to take maternity leave in the Spring term. We will be advertising for a suitable replacement to cover the absence and will let you know as soon as the appointment is confirmed. We hope you enjoy the photos of our very busy September! Science: Electricity The children have been exploring circuits and have taken part in experiments to test switches and making bulbs dimmer and brighter

Most major super markets such as Asda, Tesco's and Sainsburys offer affordable trainers that would be perfect for PE lessons. A pair of black jogging bottoms will also be required to keep warm during the outdoor Autumn lessons.

The school council has raised a number of interesting points. <ol><li>Really enjoy outdoor learning and would like even more outdoor experiences. </li><li>The pupils have asked if we can remove the bins from the playgrounds as they are attracting wasps and during the summer term some pupils were stung. It was agreed that all food and rubbish will be brought in each playtime in a black bag. The bins will be removed.</li><li>Pupils have noticed some dead mammals on the field and wanted me to explore why they have died?The premises manager has been informed and will report back at the next meeting.</li><li>Pupils have requested more drama lessons and would really like a drama club. Ms Praed will action this for the spring term.</li></ol>

We raised over £120 for the air ambulance from our wear something red day. Thank you everyone.

All classes are using the "Access art" resources this year and we are already getting amazing results. Well done year one!

Reporting Absences for illness If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, then please inform the office before 9am in the morning, and let us know why your child is going to be absent, and when you expect them to return. You may either phone the office on 01726 882647 and leave a message or alternatively, send an email to hello@probusschool.org.uk When reporting an absence, please leave a message on each day of your child's absence, telling us: - Your child's name -Year group - Why they are absent (Type of illness e.g. sickness, migraine) - When you expect them to return.

Lateness Pupils are expected to enter via the gates between 8.35-8.45 with their friends to class. If you are delayed please bring your child to reception and explain the reason for late arrival. Being on time supports your child's learning, allows them have a calm entry into school and means all pupils can commence lessons together. If your child arrives in school after 9am they will be recorded as 'late after registers close' which will give them an unauthorised absence mark for the morning session.

This term there is an extra Bingo evening which will be held in the village hall. Please be aware you must supervise your own children at this event. School lunches must be pre booked and this can be done daily, weekly, monthly or termly on Parent Pay and cost £2.65. A nursery lunch is £2. You still need to pre book if your child is entitled to a free meal. If your child is unable to attend school, please make sure you have unbooked your child's meal by 8 am - you may still be charged if you don't unbook it. If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 they are entitled to Universal Free school Meals. Classic sturdy black school shoes and trainers are permitted. Shoes and trainers with white soles, coloured logos, stripes, glitter are not acceptable.

For indoor PE pupils are usually barefoot. Plimsoles are not required. Plain white trainers maybe used for PE lessons but if you have purchased black trainers as the main school shoes these can also be used for outdoor PE lessons.

We have been loving moving and shaking while we are learning our times tables. It's the best way to start the day!

Year 4 were presented with a cheque for £2,000 from South West Water for their 'Save our Pond' project. Fancy volunteering? If you are green fingered or passionate about helping our children get outdoors, please get in touch with Mrs Woolley.

Year 3 and 4 are excited to start a project with Pengelly Garden centre to get our children growing their own produce. We are still in the running for a Tesco groundworks grant - keep using those blue chips at the Truro store (ends 30th September). The school has been awarded a wildlife kit and wildlife watching kit from Learning Through Landscapes. Including homes for hedgehogs, bees and birds as well as hd cameras and recording equipment!

Persistent Absence and Requests for Absence Authorisation

Persistent absence and requests for absence authorisation. It is vital pupils attend school regularly and we will always seek to support families who request help with attendance. Please be aware attendance is monitored closely and persistent absence and prolonged absence could result in a financial penalty. If we are concerned about a child's absence you will receive a call from the class teacher or senior leadership team. Persistence absence will be addressed by the the Head of School and the Education Welfare Officer.

What do I need to do if I need to ask for leave of absence for my child? Since September 2013, changes to Government regulations and guidance means that we can no longer authorise leave of absence for the sole purpose of a holiday (except in exceptional circumstances.) Parents must fill in a form that is available on our <a href="https://www.probusschool.org.uk/web/attendance__absence/335489">website</a>, or from the School Office, at least a month before the planned leave.

We would like all pupils to have a school jumper with logo which can be purchased from Keawear. Jade jumpers are also available from other retail outlets and these would be acceptable. Free jumpers are available through the PTA exchange and these are found in the reception foyer. If you cannot see the correct size we usually have others available. Every year we gain a large stock of unnamed items which could be returned if labelled. PLEASE LABEL ALL YOUR CHILD'S CLOTHING.

School Meals Please remember to order your child's school meal via your <a href="https://www.parentpay.com/">Parent Pay </a>account even if your child is in receipt of free school meals. Please contact Mrs Senior in the school office if you need any assistance with Parent Pay.

Water bottles As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, we want to ensure all children are able to access water during the day. Please ensure they have a named water-bottle in school daily, which contains plain, un-carbonated water.

Lost Property Please remember to name ALL items for your child - clothing, lunch boxes, drinks bottles. There is a box in main reception area if you wish to check for missing items.

There will be a trained member of staff. You can also download and access the Bright Sky app safely. This will give you access to a directory of support agencies and help lines.
