"It was really scary at first but then it was great" Pupils surpassed their own expectations and really gave a lively spirited version of the Jungle book. They sang with enthusiasm and not a single line was wrong. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow and for them to have the opportunity to share with families.

The Roseland Athletic Championships was held for the first time in two years and Probus pupils triumphed! Four schools were able to compete this year and our team achieved first place!

A big thank you to the sports leaders year six, who supported the younger pupils with care and encouragement. Thank you also to the staff, particularly Mr Flack, for arranging the events. Well done, key stage one and Nursery who were patient, organised and very active!

A very special TA leaves Probus after many years of excellent service.

Julie started working at Probus School in 1986 as a lunchtime supervisor whilst working at the preschool in the village hall, the preschool then moved onto school premises in 2005 where she worked until March 2020. Julie has covered wrap around care and worked as a fabulous teaching assistant. "I’ve seen children go through the school and their children as well and have worked with so many different great colleagues. Probus school will always have a special place in my heart being a Probus girl, mother and member of staff." We wish Julie a great, happy retirement!

Dear Parents This month has been packed with physical activity, performances and community events. The weather has been kind to us and the pupils have been able to enjoy the sunshine, although temperatures did soar at one point! It is with great fondness we are saying goodbye to an excellent year six. They demonstrated during the key stage one sports activities how nurturing, organised and mature they can be. They really represent the Probus values of tolerance and kindness to others. We wish them well in the next stage of their education. This has been a challenging year with many hurdles to overcome but the pupils, staff and community have been resilient and triumphed. We have moved from a time of restriction and isolation, to one of community celebration and collective events. It has been wonderful to host the sports days, the performances, the graduation ceremonies and PTA activities. The Summer Fete felt extra special knowing for the past two years such connection has been impossible. The staff and myself wish you all a happy and safe summer. Best wishes, Ms Praed

Music Lessons If your child wishes to play a musical instrument then please sign them up via the <a href="https://www.cornwallmusicservicetrust.org/">Cornwall Music Service Trust </a>website. We currently have keyboard, piano, violin, cello and guitar!

Police Community Action Project - Pupil Voice

Pupils shared with the police officers concerns they had about the village and looked at how their voice could bring about change. After identifying issues they formed an action plan and put this into motion. Look out for the posters around the village which highlight the things they wish to address.

Some of our youngest pupils represented our school at the Aspire EYFS games. They were praised for their confidence and "can do" attitude.

Many thanks to St.Mawes School who hosted our residential which was great fun and the pupils were praised for their excellent team work. The enjoyed sailing, paddle boarding, beach combing, castle visit, hidden cinema, Vikings workshop, the Maritime museum and Pizza in Falmouth!

Congratulations to Buddock - Winners of the house cup 2022

This fabulous project enabled the pupils to understand the origins and significance of the church in the village and the lives of the saints. Many thanks to Paul Salaman and Sarah Schofield who prepared the project. Staff and pupils thoroughly enjoyed the fascinating stories and history. The work is on display so please pop in an have a look.

Our youngest pupils took part so well in their sports but also in their graduation ceremony. Many thanks to Mrs Adams for arranging such a charming event and many thanks to the PTA for funding the graduation books. 

School lunches must be pre booked and this can be done daily, weekly, monthly or termly on Parent Pay and cost £2.45. You still need to pre book if your child is entitled to a free meal. If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 they are entitled to Universal Free school Meals. Our year six pupils have worked consistently well this year and had significant success in the standardised achievement tests. These test the performance of the school against the national average in England and this year we have not only met but significantly exceeded in each area. Well done year six. Congratulations to the staff and pupils who have worked consistently hard through out this year. In reading 85% achieved the expected standard (national 74%) In writing 86% achieved the expected standard (national 69%) In spelling, punctuation and grammar 89% achieved the expected standard (national 72%) In maths 80% achieved the expected standard (national 71%)

Persistent absence and requests for holiday authorisation. It is vital pupils attend school regularly and we will always seek to support families who request help with attendance. Please be aware attendance is monitored closely and persistent absence and prolonged absence could result in a financial penalty. Holiday during term time will not be authorised.

Lateness Pupils are expected to enter via the gates between 8.35-8.45 with their friends to class. If you are delayed please bring your child to reception and explain the reason for late arrival. Being on time supports your child's learning, calm entry into school and means all pupils can commence lessons together.

Reporting Absences If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, then please inform the office before 9am in the morning, and let us know why your child is going to be absent, and when you expect them to return. You may either phone the office on 01726 882647 and leave a message or alternatively send an email to hello@probusschool.org.uk When reporting an absence, please leave a message on each day of your child's absence, telling us: - Your child's name -Year group - Why they are absent (Type of illness e.g sickness, migraine) - When you expect them to return

School Meals Please remember to order your child's school meal via your Parent Pay account even if your child is in receipt of free school meals. Please contact Mrs Senior in the school office if you need any assistance with Parent Pay.

Lost Property Please remember to name ALL items for your child - clothing, lunch boxes, drinks bottles. There is a box in main reception area if you wish to check for missing items.

This year the PTA has returned to a full programme of exciting events and help fund some fantastic things for our school. Every class has had a donation towards trips or performances. Year six and nursery pupils have had graduation celebrations, including the presentation of hoodies. New equipment for Wild tribe and music lessons has been purchased and pupils have benefitted from visits such as Squash Box Theatre.

Special Event - Key Stage Two Sports' Day

Protect children against COVID

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, parents and carers in Cornwall are being urged to get their children vaccinated ahead of the summer holidays.
