Pupils represented the school with excellent team work and commitment at the Roseland Funfest. Many thanks to the sports leaders for making the children feel so at ease.

Our first KS2 group have achieved their SuperStar CREST awards.

To achieve this award from The British Science Association, the children from our lunchtime science club needed to earn eight completion stickers for different scientific investigations.

My favourite investigation so far was “Tumbling Toast”!

I like taking measurements and seeing what we can find out. 

Mrs Hughes has been a teaching assistant at Probus School for nearly 25 years. She has been a wonderful part of our team and she will be very missed. She has great skills in art and also a talented gardener. She is looking forward to more time with her friends and family with plenty of travel planned. Mrs Hughes would like to say "I've had a fantastic time at Probus school and its been a privilege to teach your children." During her career Mrs Hughes has supported many children in our village and I am sure she will hear "Mrs Hughes" be called out for many years to come. Many thanks and best wishes for the future adventures.

Dodgeball was the best and everyone was really nice. I've never been to the Roseland school before.

Year 5 have started their yoga unit this half term, we have focused on flow between poses.&#160;

Children have used a range of typography features to design interesting and artistic maps&#160;

Year 5 enjoyed creating book covers on world book day. They read the Harry Potter Chapter: Quidditch; enjoying a House Cup mini Tournament of Quidditch in the hall. 

On a beautiful sunny day, Beech Class were joined by Mrs Kennedy for a walk around Probus. We found human and physical geographical features and learnt about what was once in our village. The children loved finding out about the Church, the Blacksmith and all the different locations of the Post Office. They loved hearing Mrs Kennedy's memories of the village. Thank you Mrs Kennedy.

We had an interesting debate about devices and if they are safe in children's bedrooms. The parents present had taken good steps to ensure internet access was being monitored and no tablets, game consoles and phones were permitted without adult supervision. We also discussed at what age a child should have access to a smart phone. It was felt it was a good asset at Secondary school but not necessary at Primary age.

For the first time EVER, we have had six pupils reach the finals of the county cross country! They have had to go through two previous rounds to be able to gain a place to get there! They battled through the rain and did themselves proud.

Dear Parents, March has been jammed packed with activities! We have had a second wonderful workshop from Pengelly Nursery and plant pots are germinating around the classes! Our bulbs look beautiful in the foyer and the Spring term is drawing to a close. World book day was lovely and included in this newsletter is lots of lovely photos of the pupils enjoying snuggling up with a book. We have attended funfest, cross country events, had Cornish dance performances and the drama club sharing. Walk to school week was not dampened by the rain and pupils did well at the Lego league event. Sadly we must say farewell to Mrs Hughes in year five, she will be very missed. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter.

Mrs Bowen and Mr Ferguson were joined by Andrew Fielder on there journey to St.Mawes. The team cycled there in less than two hours and were greeted by the pupils of key stage one and some delicious cake. It has been a great project seeing all the Aspire schools connect across Cornwall. Thank you for the donations towards Comic relief and other charities.

Music Lessons If your child wishes to play a musical instrument, then please sign them up via the <a href="https://www.cmst.co.uk">Cornwall Music Service Trust </a>website. We currently have violin and guitar lessons going on during the week, but will help to get other instrumental teachers into school if your child would like to learn a different instrument.

The children had a lovely World Book Day making books with their buddies and sharing stories. Some children were inspired to write their own stories and create a book to share with the class. 

The children enjoyed a visit from a parent who is a farmer and got to ask questions about food and farming as well as having a sit down in the tractor!

We have been growing our own peas...let's hope they               are all good little peas!

It was great fun milking the cows on the playground!

 World Book Day - Snuggling up with a book

Thank you for all your messages of support. The day was a real celebration of books and reading which was loved by all.

Year 3 started the month by leading a whole school assembly on our 'Be ready' school value and sharing World Book Day with Year Two.

We then jumped into our new topic of 'Ancient Egypt' and were mummifying tomatoes and deciphering hieroglyphics.

We ended the month by sharing our fabulous writing with Year Four and dancing with Chinese dragons to end our music topic from this half term.

Reporting Absences for illness If your child is going to be absent from school due to illness, please inform the office before 9am on the day. You need to let us know what illness your child is absent with. You may either phone the office on 01726 882647 and leave a message or alternatively, send an email to <a href="mailto:hello@probusschool.org.uk">hello@probusschool.org.uk</a> When reporting an absence, please contact us each day of your child's absence.

Lateness Pupils are expected to enter via the gates between 8.35-8.45 with their friends to class. If you are delayed please bring your child to reception and explain the reason for late arrival. Being on time supports your child's learning, allows them have a calm entry into school and means all pupils can commence lessons together.

Willow Class have been enjoying learning about 3D and 2D shapes in our maths lessons. We have been exploring about the properties of shape: faces, vertices, sides and edges. We have been on a learning walk to find 2D and 3D shapes within our school grounds. We have found lots of different 3D shapes in our classroom. We can even spot a 2D shape within a 3D shape too!

School lunches must be pre booked and this can be done daily, weekly, monthly or termly on <a href="http://www.parentpay.com">Parent Pay</a> and cost £2.65. You still need to pre book if your child is entitled to a free meal. If your child is unable to attend school, please make sure you have unbooked your child's meal by 8 am - you may still be charged if you don't unbook it. If your child is in Year R, 1 or 2 they are entitled to Universal Free school Meals. Some of the amazing homework from Year 3 this half term! Wow!

8 children from Year 6 took part in the Lego Challenge! All the children were amazing! They had to work as a team to code a robot to move around a table and interact with objects. They also had to stand in front of judges and give a presentation about all they had done! We received comments from other teachers and judges about their amazing attitude!

Year 6 have been completing their mock SATS! Everyone did very well BUT most importantly, everyone did their best! We are very proud of them! Well done, Year 6!

Art - What would your chair say if it could speak? Children have used inspiration from other artists and thought about textures, colours and materials…(work in progress)

Persistent absence and requests for absence authorisation. It is vital pupils attend school regularly and we will always seek to support families who request help with attendance. Please be aware attendance is monitored closely and persistent absence and prolonged absence could result in a financial penalty. If we are concerned about a child's absence you will receive a call from the class teacher or senior leadership team. Persistence absence will be addressed by the Head of School and the Education Welfare Officer.

What do I need to do if I need to ask for leave of absence for my child? Since September 2013, changes to Government regulations and guidance means that we can no longer authorise leave of absence for the sole purpose of a holiday (except in exceptional circumstances.) Parents must fill in a form that is available on our website, or from the office, at least a month before the planned leave.

School Meals Please remember to order your child's school meal via your <a href="http://www.parentpay.com">Parent Pay</a> account even if your child is in receipt of free school meals. Please contact Mrs Senior in the school office if you need any assistance with Parent Pay.

Water bottles As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, we want to ensure all children are able to access water during the day. Please ensure they have a named water-bottle in school daily, which contains plain, un-carbonated water.

Wraparound Care A polite reminder that you need to pre-book your child into wraparound care via<a href="http://www.parentpay.com"> Parent Pay</a> 1 week in advance. We have limited places available each day so cannot guarantee your child a place if not pre-booked.

Lost Property Please remember to name ALL items for your child - clothing, lunch boxes, drinks bottles. There is a box in main reception area if you wish to check for missing items.

UK Health Security Agency’s (UKHSA) warning - Measles

Following recent cases of Measles, The UK Health Security Agency’s (UKHSA) warns the virus can spread very easily among those who are unvaccinated, especially in nurseries and schools.&nbsp;Measles can be a very serious disease, leading to ear and chest infections, fits, diarrhoea, and damage to the brain. Measles can kill.&nbsp;Measles usually starts with cold like symptoms followed by a rash. Children are at risk of measles if they haven’t had the recommended 2 doses of the MMR vaccination. We have noticed some children are bringing large bottles of squash to school everyday. This is very detrimental to their teeth. Sugar substitutes are also encouraging the need for a sweet drink through out the day. The water bottles used through out the day must only contain water. If your child has a packed lunch a small cartoon of fruit juice is fine. to have at lunchtime only, with food.

School council this term have been interested in improving lunchtimes and have focused on behaviour. They have requested new tables for lunchtime and a gazebo for shelter on the field. They would also like a board for drawing outside and a variety of games for the key stage two playground. Thank you for all your ideas!
