Where have I showed grit?
G R I T
Last season in soccer we went undefeated the whole season. When we reached the championship game we were down 4-2 at halftime but our team wanted this win so badly we had beaten these guys before and we hadn’t lost a game yet and we knew we deserved to win the game because we had worked so hard to get there. As the 2nd half started we scored right off the bat then about 40 seconds later we struck again and then again and then again. We ended up winning that game 6-4 we showed lots of grit that game and it seemed that the other team thought they’d already won and had a bad mindset.
Where do I show these skills best:
Where can I show these skills more?
I show grit while playing sports like soccer, hocking and boxing. In soccer If I want to win the game and work hard I make sure to have a growth mindset like in the story I told I didn’t give up even when our team was losing. For example in Hockey I am a goalie and sometimes I have bad games but I try not to have a fixed mindset about it I try and have a growth mindset and finish the game strong. In boxing if I don’t block correctly or my jabs or hooks are off I don’t say “ I’m so bad at this” I will learn from it and listen to my coach on how I can improve.
I think in school I get down on myself and just come to the conclusion that I’m not good at a particular subject but I think my goal for this school year is to ask more questions and definitely dont get down on myself in school work.
reflection two
My mindset
When I have a bad game in a sport I usually have a fixed mindset about it because I just feel like Ive let my team down and my coaches who have put in so much effort. To simplify that I think that I have a fixed mindset about playing bad in sports because I have the feeling that I will let my team down. How will I change that into a growth mindset? I think a good solution is to only worry about myself and not what other people think which I think will let me forget about disappointing my team and I will have a growth mindset about it.
How have my thoughts on Intelligence changed as a result of new understanding: Well now that Ive learned about that topic I now know that intelligence doesn’t define you as a person its a meaningless complement that maybe a parent or a teacher would tell you.
Was there a time I received a fixed or growth mindset praise and did I realize a difference in my success:
Yes, actually there was a great example for that. Last school year my teacher and my Dad had a parent teacher conference and I don’t think that it was my proudest term in school. So during the interview my Dad told me that my teacher said that it’s not that I’m not intelligent its just I need to show more care in my work. Which is a great fixed mindset praise and ever since then I actually felt more motivated to put a lot more effort in my school work.
How have my thoughts on achievement changed in school as a result of new understanding:
Well now I know that being told you’re intelligent or dumb doesn’t mean anything and that really has changed how I look at academic success. That shows that the people getting good grades and doing well in school are really determined and show grit in their school work as well as they take the time to think on what they have just learned and how they can implement that knowledge into their work.
Learning, beliefs and school
What am I willing to fail in this year to learn:
I am willing to fail at understanding solutions in subjects. That why I can go through a trial and error process of trying something a way and if it doesn’t work then I will keep trying and trying until I get it right
Failures and perseverance
What factors can I identify that will help me succeed:
Definitely Understanding my own work and not just writing stuff down that I was told to write down. I also think that putting effort into my work is a big part of it and not just writing something down because I’m supposed to I should write it down and take the time to put lots of detail and thought into it.
How will I keep my growth mindset time after time, task after task, through failure and success:
I will definitely Imagine what the final product is and what I’m working towards which will really drive me to finish what I’m doing. The simple things leading up to the big things. When I’m having a tough time focusing on a task or a subject I will think about growth mindset and remember what I’ve learned.
