WHAT IS SLIME?
Loading...
Slime is a gooey, sticky substance made by mixing a compound called sodium Borate, or Borax, with water. It has a thick, glue-like texture and can be made in a variety of colours.Slime was a toy product manufactured by Mattel, sold in a plastic trash can and introduced in February 1976. It consisted of a non-toxic viscous, squishy and oozy green or other color material made primarily from guar gum.
Is slime safe for kids?
Yes, slime is perfectly safe for most kids.

Besides Borax, the two most common activators used in slime making are liquid starch which contains sodium tetraborate and saline solution which contains boric acid. So essentially the active ingredient in all these activators is the same.
What is the use of slime?
Other than the sheer fun of learning science, slime is popular for several reasons. Some find it satisfying to watch slime turn from a solid to a liquid and back again. Squishing it between your fingers can also be a great way to relieve stress. And some people just like it because it's gooey and fun to stretch.

Why is slime so popular?
But the real source of slime's popularity may be auditory in nature. The appeal of the videos—often featuring a tub of slime being poked at repeatedly—is that distinctive slurping sound the slime produces when moved, stretched and interacted with. The slime obsession has created several social media celebrities.

Why does my slime keep getting hard?
What to do if your slime is hard and rubbery? If your slime has turned hard and rubbery and breaks off when you pull it rather than being stretchy, it means you have put too much Borax Solution. You may be able to save this by soaking it in a bowl of hot tap water.
