Book Creator - Ways To Enhance Literacy

Have your learners record the poem using the Record option from the menu.

Look for keywords and line the pages up as one long panoramic story. Learners will arrange the pages to tell their version of the story. Hours of storytelling fun assured!

Activity 1: The Sound of Silence

Record different sounds using the Record option from the menu.

Introduce the new Sound Box that arrived in the classroom with your learners.

Distinguish shades of meaning among verbs differing in manner (e.g.,&nbsp;look, peek, glance, stare, glare, scowl) and adjectives differing in intensity (e.g., large, gigantic) by defining or choosing them or by acting out the meanings.

Note: Paint strips to indicate the colors and gradients.

Have the learners add emoji's to the images.

Next have them write the story of the emoji.

Activity 1: More Than Words

Combine drawing, sound and text to create Haiku poems.

Have your learners create a new book project.

Next have them write a poem in the Haiku format.

Have them add drawings or image from the poem.

Your learners rearrange the words on the magnetic board to leave each other a message. Repeat this activity every school day to create a full story by the end of the school year.

Your learners will paint their next masterpiece while listening to the whispers of their instructor. Compare the original with the copy and reflect on their listening skills.

Have them rearrange the pages (keys and locks) in the overview to make words rhyme.

Activity 1: The Story Continues

Add images and text to the project from the menu. Use key time words like first and at last.

Invite your learners to panoramic story book at the reading station.

Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.

Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.

Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.

Use dialogue and descriptions of actions, thoughts, and feelings to develop experiences and events or show the response of characters to situations.

Have your learners arrange the pages in the correct order to complete the artwork.

Have them try their step-by-step guide out and edit where necessary.

Differentiate this project by adding numbers to some of the steps.

Ask for clarification and further explanation as needed about the topics and texts under discussion.

Recount or describe key ideas or details from a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media.

Activity 1: We Are Family

Interview your family members to reveal the stories behind the picture.

During this activity the learners have to listen carefully to the words. Which ones rhyme? Every key fits with a lock. Find the rhyming words and unlock the padlocks.

Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).

Note: Chart of words that rhyme.

They live in a keyboard far far away from here and experience the strangest stories. It's the Tiny Emoji's. Provide your learners with a situation and invite them to write the next adventure.

Have your learners arrange the words to leave a message.

Take this activity further and use it as a reflection board either at the end or the start of a lesson.

Search your attic and basement and pull out the family albums. Who is who? What is the story behind the pictures? Have your learners interview their family members and take a step back in time.

Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

With guidance and support from adults, use technology to produce and publish writing (using keyboarding skills) as well as to interact and collaborate with others

Someone spilled coffee all over the lyrics of your favorite song. Have your learners record themselves while filling in the blanks. How good are you going to be at the next karaoke?

Add the root word in the lightest rectangle at the top.

Have your learners write down synonyms for the first word getting stronger as the colors get darker.

Activity 3: Heard It Through The Grapevine

Reconstruct a painting that is being described to you.

Have them sit back to back. One is looking at the painting and the other has Book Creator ready.

The learner looking at the painting describes it to the other one.

Activity 3: Let's Face The Music

Narrate the lyrics of your favorite song.

Erase some of the words with the drawing tools.

The learner listening to the description draws the objects and places them in the correct location.

Have your learners compare the painting and the result.

You can also organise this activity individually. To do this you have to pre record the instructions.

Have your learners rearrange the pages based upon the time indications using the pages overview.

Have them record their version of the story using the Record option in the menu.

Use background from games to create that endless feeling or capture some panoramic photos on your phone.

Activity 2: Come Together

Arrange the words to leave a message of wisdom.

Add a background image of a magnetic board.

Add a random set of words. Use a white background and black text if you want to resemble the magnetic poetry cards.

Activity 3: One Direction

Follow the step-by-step directions to create art.

Capture images while performing a process. For this example I created a stick puppet.

Insert the images in a random order into your project from the media menu.

Have your learners sing the song while recording themselves using the Record option in the menu.

Delete the drawings and compare the lyrics with the audio.

Turn this activity into a music quiz and see who knows the most songs.

Activity 1: Alphabet St.

Discover and capture the words around you.

Add a letter from the alphabet on a each page.

Distribute the book project and send your learners on a photo safari, capturing different words.

Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others; demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of one page in a single sitting.

Your learners grab a set of letters from a black bag. Once the letters are revealed your learners will try to create as many words as possible.

Activity 2: The Keys To The Beat

Create a new book with a key on one page and a lock on the other.

Record a word on each page using the Record option from the menu.

Have your learners listen to the words on the keys and the locks.

The steps to recreate a construction have fallen on the floor. Everything is mixed up. Invite your learners to rearrange the steps to create the guide.

Use information gained from illustrations (e.g., maps, photographs) and the words in a text to demonstrate understanding of the text (e.g., where, when, why, and how key events occur).

Note: Art and maker supplies to create the artwork.

Activity 2: On The Road Again

Describe the journey through the polaroids.

Create engaging audio recordings of stories or poems that demonstrate fluid reading at an understandable pace; add visual displays when appropriate to emphasize or enhance certain facts or details.

Every week a new box full of sounds arrives in the classroom. The learners try to figure out what is inside the box and determine a common theme between the items.

A spy drops an envelope off in the classroom and challenges your learners to break the secret code. How good are their alphabet and reading skills to find the hidden message?

Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.

Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

Activity 3: Don't Worry Be Happy.

Write stories inspired by the life of emoji's.

Capture images of objects (fruit, books, etc.) in your classroom.

Activity 2: Life In Color

Write down synonyms using the color charts.

Add rectangular shapes from the shapes library.

Change the color of the rectangles in a gradient from light to dark. The change of color will indicate the intensity of the words.

Capture picture of your latest field trip and ask your learners to recreate the experience by narrating the story.

Draw letters and form as many words as possible.

Have your learners draw ten letters from a Scrabble game.

Next have them create a new book project.

Have them write down all the letters on one page.

Activity 2: Mission Impossible

Create an alphabet and a secret code using LEGO® bricks and then capture an image of both.

Connect words to colors. Have your learners find synonyms for the given root word. Changing their intensity as the colors get darker.

Let literacy blossom in your classroom. Invite your learners to write Haiku poems and make them pop using drawings, photos, shapes and audio recordings.

Note: Storytelling game cards.

Have your learners add the images to the book. Each image on a separate page and behind the letter the word starts with.

Next have them write down the words and share their new dictionary.

Repeat this activity a few times during the school year to expand their dictionary.
