We know that your child's first days at school are an exciting but potentially daunting time. Please be reassured that our team of expert colleagues will support your child to find their feet and feel settled at school. At Tregolls, we are a team, and establishing positive relationships with a our pupils and parent community is an essential part of our progress together.

We really hope you find today informative and that the team's carefully planned series of transition sessions help your child to feel settled at Tregolls. We're looking forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks.
What Will You See in the Early Years at Tregolls?

We have developed a carefully planned, sequential and challenging Early Years curriculum, which allows our pupils to become independent and confident thinkers who are highly motivated to achieve what they set out to do.

We believe that children should be involved in making decisions about their own learning and so we bring their fascinations and interests into our planning, which promotes high levels of well-being and engagement.

We believe that learning in the Early Years should be as practical as possible, and therefore we are proud that in our setting we have a strong ethos of learning through play. Children have daily opportunities to take part in active, child led uninterrupted play.  This approach enables children to be happy, confident, problem solvers who demonstrate team-work, collaboration and children who are resilient and willing to tackle challenges when they arise.

We balance a child-initiated approach through our continuous provision and discreet adult taught sessions to ensure that children learn the fundamental skills and knowledge needed in preparation for year one and beyond.
We don’t expect every day to be the same and value the uniqueness of each child!

School begins at 8.40am for children in EYFS. It is important that children are punctual. This supports independence in the mornings and helps to settle children ready for their day.
Each half term has a very loose theme; often linked to seasons and relevant festivals. Teachers choose key texts to read aloud and for children to learn.
Sometimes teachers plan 'hooks' linked to these; E.G. A letter from the Little Red Hen.
Our aim is to foster a love of reading and writing. We follow children's interests and ideas, ensuring learning is meaningful to them.
Our Maths is supported with the BBC Number Blocks. Children enjoy watching the episodes whilst learning new language and skills.
Each Monday morning, Nursery and Reception spend the morning outside taking part in 'Muddy Monday'. We often light fires and use the larger school grounds to learn about the world around us.
Teachers plan many experience days. One of our favourites this year was our 'Well-Being Wednesday.'
We have links with the local retirement lodge, making friends with the owners. We read and play games whilst enjoying a snack.
We plan many exciting trips in and around our local area. This year we have visited the library, The Alverton Manor, Newquay Zoo, the woods, the beach and the park.
