This paper delves into the relationship between consumers and food, specifically focusing on finding out if there is a link between consumer preference and brands within supermarkets in America. By proving this it will contribute to expanding the research on independent and conglomerate brands based on how likely a consumer is to buy that product. To quantify how likely a consumer is to prefer one brand over another, this test aimed at finding out whether conglomerate or oligopolistic manufacturers or independent manufacturers of food and beverages. By analyzing different papers on the link between food and consumers we were able to form a Likert scale styled research format. Using a five point scale where one is “strongly disagree,” and five is “strongly agree,” the data was quantified by averages and means. The data collected proved that consumers do care about their preconceived notions of both purchasing healthy foods and their beliefs regarding a balanced diet. The data however, failed to establish a clear link between brand name items and consumer preference therefore more research must be done. In conclusion the research done will further discover the link between consumer and brand named food items and may serve as a stepping stone to future research to help keep diversity in the food and beverage industry.
A species is classified as a keystone species because of its vital role and impact it has on many different species in an ecosystem. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services classifies the sea otter as a keystone species “because of its role as a predator at the top of multiple trophic cascades that result in the creation and maintenance of healthy kelp forests and seagrass beds.” Kelp is important to the Pacific Ocean ecosystem because kelp acts as shelter, food, and offers protection for countless marine species. Prior research indicates that sea otter populations correlate directly to volume and density of kelp forests in the Pacific Ocean. The Sea Otter Foundation and Trust states that because sea otters maintain healthy kelp forests, sea otters indirectly help to reduce levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide because kelp absorbs and sequesters carbon. This is what “makes the sea otter’s ecological role vital for the health of the planet, even helping to combat climate change” writes The Sea Otter Foundation and Trust. Despite this, sea otter’s have been marked on the endangered list of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, along with this, sea otters have remained extinct in Oregon. An introduction of southern sea otters into Oregon would help in the recovery of genetic diversity and prolonging the survival of sea otters. My research is a meta analysis of the prior efforts and information collected in the sea otter reintroduction and preservation field which has informed my recommended process for sea otter reintroduction and preservation into Oregon to preserve and recover the Pacific sea otter.

Clarke, E. The Inhibitory Efficacy of Postbiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus on Escherichia coli.
Each year millions of people suffer from E.coli related illnesses. As a result, new, effective, and cost efficient treatment and prevention methods are alwyas being explored. Recently, postbiotics have emerged as a potential solution to these illnesses, but pharmaceutical companies claims about their effectiveness are underdeveloped and underreseached. Pharmaceutical companies market postbiotics as antimicrobial, anti-bloating, obesity prevention, and, even, as a possible COVID treatment. This paper tests the antimicrobial properties of postbiotics against E.coli to determine if pharmaceutical company claims are accurate. Specifically, this research seeks to determine if postbiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus can be used as an inhibitor against Escherichea coli. To test this experiment, the postbiotic was prepared following prior research and a modified agar disk diffusion method was used to apply the postbiotic to the growing E.coli. After data was collected, a t-Test was performed which yielded an accepted p value of 0.001369331237. This allolwed me to reject my null hypothesis alluding to the possibility that L. acidophilus can be used as an effective inhibitor against E.coli. With further testing, these results could provide a more cost effective, easily transportable, and shelf stable prevention method to E.coli related illnesses.
