Dear Charlotte,
I can't wait until I arrive at America. I wish you could be traveling with me, though it is about a week and 5 days until I arrive at America. I met this guy named Jack, he is Russian also and he is going to New York and he is really kind. Yesterday there was a really bad storm I couldn't get any sleep at all. I never want to get out of steerage because I will get very seasick and throw up. I really miss you I hope at some point I could see you again soon. I can't stop thinking that I'm never going to see you again, but I hope I do see you again at some point. And I can´t stop feeling bad for the other people who are leaving family members too.
Sincerely,
Zach

Dear Charlotte,
I have arrived and when we arrived officers wearing uniforms greeted the ferryboat. They were shouting and yelling things I couldn't understand, and I wasn't sure anyone could understand them. Then I walked into the towering building. There were thousands of people in a room that looked like some sort of baggage room. Someone put a tag on my chest that had a number on it. I put my bag down and started going up the stairs to the registry room.
While I was going upstairs, I saw doctors staring down the stairs looking for people with any signs of health problems. Then I got into a line to wait for the medical and legal inspections. it was very loud. Then it was finally my turn I walked into the room then a doctor lifted my eyelid with a buttonhook to check for trachoma and also gave me a six-second physical. There also was a piece of chalk on one of the desks in the room. I seemed to pass both. Then I had to go to the legal inspection and they asked me questions like where were you born? and have you ever been convicted of a crime?
Then someone started leading me to a room on the third floor and I started following him. He led me into a room with beds and lots of people, I didn`t know what was going on. Then he left and closed the door behind him. I was very confused at that moment and then I thought what if I didn`t answer one of the questions correctly. Then I climbed on top of one of the beds and fell asleep for about four hours.
Then someone came through the door and started leading me to an area with three staircases and he led me to the one on the left and then I noticed a post office, a ticketing office for the railways and social workers. Then he led me to the a dock where a ferryboat was ready to take me back home. Then right before I got on the boat one of the workers called my name because my dad had arrived. So I got off the boat and ran to the other boat that had arrived. Then I saw someone waving to me on the boat and somehow I kinda recognized him. it took me a moment of thinking to figure out who it was and then a couple minutes later I finally knew. It was dad! When I noticed that it was dad I started to cry. Then the boat pulled up to the dock. I ran to to dad and hugged him. My journey was finally over.
Sincerely,
Zach
