How Maui slowed the sun

Before they went to the sun they carved some flax and they made very strong ropes. 

They told the sun that he was going too fast and they wanted him to slow down. But he said “No.”

The sun was going down too fast and the people in the village were annoyed.

So, Maui got his friends gathered together and set off to slow the sun. 

When they got to where the sun rises, they started building a wall so the sun couldn’t see them. They waited till the sun got up.

The days became as slow as they are today and that is how we tell the story of how Maui slowed the sun.

Then they took out their hooks and threw them at the sun. They caught the sun. 

Maui and his friends used all of their strength to keep the sun down. They held the ropes tight and tied them down to the rocks. 

They put hooks on the ends of the ropes and then they set off in their waka.
