Gardens Of Technology Arts is a small charter school. It's also a technology school where the school has amazing staff and teachers. All of the students love the teachers here and the wonderful lunch. All of the students feel welcomed and safe here at Gardens School Of Technology Arts.

Ms. Joyce's Spotlight Class.

For this week we have decided to pick Ms. Joyce's 5th grade class as the cover of the magazine of Gsota. We also got an interview with Ms. Joyce and her class.

Our first question was, how do you feel about your class?

Ms. Joyce said, "they are amazing and have greatly improved since the start of the year."

Our second question was, how do you think your students feel about your class?

Ms. Joyce said, "I think they enjoy it and like it."

Our third question was, what is something interesting and fun you and your class has done?

Ms. Joyce and her class said that they had done an index card tower that had to hold an Iphone charger.

The origination of Groundhogs Day

Have you ever heard of Groundhogs Day?

The first official Groundhogs day celebration was February 2nd, 1887.
It took place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

You may ask, what is the point of Groundhogs day? Groundhogs day is an ancient Christian tradition of Candlemas.

The priests bless every candle in the church, citizens of the church are invited to bring their own candles as well to be blessed and used in their own homes for prayer throughout the whole year.
You also might be wondering what groundhogs have to do with candlemas, the reason why the "holiday" is named after groundhogs is because, if a groundhog runs out of its hole and gets scared & runs back into its burrow, it's predicting about 6 more weeks left of winter. The reason that is important is because the amount of candles in groundhogs day has to also do with the weeks of winter.

Interviews with people

I interviewed a few people and here is their views on Groundhogs day - First, I interviewed Noah asking "Why do you think they use Groundhogs for this day?" His answer was "Because they hibernate" , Although that is not the reason they hibernate it was a good answer! Then, I interviewed Jeiel asking if he knows anything about Groundhogs Day, his answer was "I'm pretty sure they come out of a stump and tell the weather", which was pretty close to what actually happens.

Animal of the week

The animal of this week is a Groundhog. I will be providing you with facts about the Groundhog in honor of them.

1. Groundhogs are actually related to squirrels
2. They are a substitute for Hedgehogs.
3. They're considered 'pests' by farmers.
4. The Groundhog has many nicknames such as Woodchucks, Land Beavers & Whistle pigs
5. They're excellent swimmers.

The song " I'm good" was released on august 26 2022
and it became famous first on tik tok and is now the #1 song on hit records it also topped charts in 21 countries. The song " i'm good " was originally from the song " I'm blue" by Eiffel 65 in 1998, when " im good" was made it marked the the 2nd collab between Bebe Rexha and guetta, rexha and Guetta speaks about it and says “It’s nostalgic to when I was younger. Listening to Eiffel 65’s original song and it was just a fun record that we put together naturally.”

Lizzo~ She moved to Minneapolis in 2011, and got her big break from singer Prince, who "co-signed" her music and even got to perform on his 2014 song, 'Boy Trouble'. ~google

I've interviewed a few students at the school and here are their responses:
I've interviewed Cliff St George, a 7th grader here at GSOTA, with the question "Do you know any of the top 10 songs from tik tok?" and Cliff said " Yes I know the song 'kill bill' by SZA ". Along with Amanda Anicentt, her response " I know the song " kill bill"and "boy's a liar" by pinkpantheress and SZA".

BETTER is a game that takes a peak at the families at GSOTA

This part of the magazine is called BETTER, I ask two family members questions about each other to see who knew one another better. The person with the most questions correct wins a candy.

I asked them 5 basic questions such as what's their favorite color, favorite teacher, etc. I also asked them two true or false questions just to make it a bit more fun.

Contestants
The first contestants on BETTER are the cousins Cameron Anderson and Ava Rivera.

The day before I asked them the questions I said how well did you know each other. Cameron said he knew Ava well and knew her from birth. Ava said she didn't know a lot about Cameron but still knew him pretty well.

Because of the responses from the day before I asked them the basic and true or false questions I had a good feeling of who was going to get more questions right out of the two.

Results
After I asked them the questions and compared their answers with each other to see who knew who BETTER .

Now what you all have been waiting for, who knows who BETTER Cameron or Ava and the winner is Cameron with 6 out of 7 and Ava with 5 out of 7. To be honest it was very close, they both seem to know each other very well and seem to be close but at the end of the day there can only be one winner and it was Cameron.

According to CNN,"Prince Harry has added to his allegations about the inner workings of the British royals ahead of the publication of his memoir “Spare” on Tuesday, setting the stage for an explosive week for the estranged family as they navigate his highly publicized disclosures.
In two interviews with British and US networks ITV and CBS, the Duke of Sussex spoke of the death of his mother, the former Princess of Wales; his disdain for the British press; his anger over the treatment of his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and the subsequent fallout with his family since their marriage."

CNN also said,"Speaking to CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday, Prince Harry accused Camilla, Queen Consort, of leaking stories about the family to the British media as part of her campaign to “rehabilitate her image.” His mother Diana famously referred to Camilla as the third person in her marriage to then-Prince Charles.
He said he hadn’t spoken with his brother, Prince William, and his father, King Charles III, for “a while,” adding the “ball is very much in their court” when asked about the possibility of a reconciliation.
In a subsequent interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” broadcast on Monday, Harry also shared that it’s been “a long time” since he’s spoken to his stepmother.

"Buckingham Palace has repeatedly declined to comment on the contents of Prince Harry’s forthcoming memoir, which has been the subject of leaks detailing some of his most controversial claims. CNN has not seen a copy of the book but has requested an advance copy from the publisher Penguin Random House.
The interviews came hours before the publication of his memoir on Tuesday at midnight London time (7 p.m. ET Monday), as Prince Harry continues to push back against what he refers to as “the institution,” revealing his perspective on life inside the royal family."

Speaking to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, who also appears as a regular correspondent on CBS’ 60 Minutes, Prince Harry said both he and his brother, Prince William, had asked the King not to marry Camilla.
“We didn’t think it was necessary. We thought that it was gonna cause more harm than good and that if he was now with his person, that – surely that’s enough.”
But he said the brothers eventually came around to the idea: “We wanted him to be happy. And we saw how happy he was with her.”However, the Duke of Sussex added that Camilla was “dangerous” because she’d been cast as a “villain” by the press for her role in the collapse of his parents’ marriage and needed to “rehabilitate her image.”
“That made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press. And there was open willingness on both sides to trade of information. And with a family built on hierarchy, and with her, on the way to being Queen Consort, there was gonna be people or bodies left in the street because of that,” Prince Harry said.

What is Martin Luther King day?

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the third Monday in January, near Mr. King's birthday on January 15. Martin Luther King Jr. day (or MLK day) is a day where we honor the life and work of Mr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. MLK was an American civil rights leader who dedicated his life to achieving equality for people of all colors. Article, "Why We Celebrate MLK Day"

MLK day became an a official holiday soon after his assassination. The holiday was not passed until 1983.

Why we celebrate MLK Day

Why do we have MLK day? While Mr. King believed the Community was possible, he fought for change. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

How will people celebrate MLK day?

3 people were selected to be interviewed and asked on how they would celebrate the honorable holiday. I first interviewed Lizette Jimenez. The question was, "How do you celebrate MLK day?" and she said, "I don't celebrate MLK day but I still honor him and thank him for everything he has done well."

The second person I interviewed was Pragya Mathuria. Pragya states she doesn't celebrate MLK day but thinks it's a holiday and appreciates him for his hard work and leadership.
Last but not least, the last person I interviewed was Aniyah Dunbar. I guess no one celebrates MLK day in the class because she said she also doesn't celebrate MLK day which is a bummer. Although, she did say she watches a BLM movie which is very interesting. How would you celebrate MLK day?
