It is important for health and well-being that your child has access to fresh water throughout the day, especially as the weather is beginning to get warmer.

Please make sure that your child has a labelled water bottle in school, which will need to be taken home each day to be washed and refilled.

Summer fair

As you will be aware, Kirton Road/ Churston Avenue will be holding their annual Summer Fair on Friday 1st July/ Monday 4th July from 1pm to 3pm. To support the success of the day, we encourage parents to arrive at 1pm to accompany children to the fair.

We also ask that you provide your children with a maximum of £5 at the start of the day in a container/bag so that they can take part and access the stalls available. There will be a wide range of activities including: Wet the Teacher, Bouncy Castle, Penalty Shootout, Face Painting, food and drinks and lots more.

In Year 4, we have started our animation topic. We have created our own flick books to show how images can be repeated and moved slightly to show movement.

ESOL CLASSES

We are pleased to share that the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications will be available for parents and carers of children who attend Upton Cross. This programme is designed to help learners develop the English language and build confidence in using English in everyday life, education and employment. If you would like to take part, please sign up for the next course of free ESOL classes that will run for 5 weeks from Wednesday 15th of June to Wednesday the13th of July from 12-3pm.

This course will be offered face to face at our Kirton Road site. If you sign up it is really important that you attend all of the sessions. Please speak with Ms Graham at Churston Avenue or Ms Hammond at Kirton Road. You can also call the school and give your details to reception. Please read the attached leaflet for more information.

Topical Talk

Congratulations to Emma from Laurel class (known as precious_rainforest on the Hub) for winning the Competition known as That's not right!

This is the first time we have won two weekly competitions in a row.
Upton Cross is now in 5th place on the Topical Talk School Leaderboard!

Family Open Day

Come along to this FREE event for community engagement, which will include members of the Police, London Fire Brigade, HERTS air ambulance and more! There will also be some fun activities including demonstrations by LFB, and some activity stalls by the Police.

EYFS Update!

We have exciting news to share with you. We are currently in the process of redesigning our EYFS outdoor area at Churston Avenue, to ensure that it continues to reflect the areas of learning within the curriculum. Now the design process is complete, we can now share that we are expecting the building process to start imminently so therefore, our outdoor space may not look the same for a while. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin our work on transitioning our EYFS pupils to the next stage of their education. Our reception children will therefore spend more time in the Year 1 outdoor area for the Summer 2 Term. 
From next week, we would like our EYFS parents/carers at Churston Avenue, to enter the school using the same gate however, to drop off and collect their child from the set of Fire Doors in the main playground area. Do not hesitate to contact a member of the EYFS team.

Learning in Fig Class!

This week, in Fig Class, we were very excited to visit Green Street library. It was great fun and we listened to a story and used our library cards to borrow books.

 In Maths, Fig children have been learning how to add using different resources. We enjoyed using playdough to create different quantities.

Eco Day!

On Wednesday 5th July, we will be having an ‘Eco Day’ to raise funds for some green spaces within the school. Children and staff will be asked to come to school dressed in blue or green clothing. Please bring a small donation of a £1 to help raise money for the day. We are looking forward to seeing everyone wearing their ‘earthly’ colours!
