Typical Questions from new third graders:

The teachers will show you around, help you get to know where everything is, and you will NOT get lost. Everyone helps our newest dolphins know where to go, including the fourth and fifth graders.

Some lockers are right outside of the classroom and others are in the middle of the school. The teachers will put your name on your locker so you know which one is yours. 

Your second grade teachers and Mrs. Deely help us make the classes. We hope that you will know some of the kids. But, don't worry if you do not have a close friend. The teachers will try to help everyone feel comfortable as you get used to Shabonee.

Will I get to see Shabonee before school starts? 

We hope so! Each year, we hold a "meet and greet" a day or two before school starts to see your classroom and meet your teachers. We will share more information later in the summer.

Everyone has two Teachers! One teacher for Reading &amp; Language Arts One teacher for Math, Science, and Social Studies You'll spend the morning with one teacher and the afternoon with the other teacher. Some children stay in the same room all day, but most have two classrooms.

We use red and blue bins in the desks to organize supplies. If you use red in the morning class, you'll use red in the afternoon.

We have 2 gyms. We call one "The Flex Space" because it's also used for lunch. The Gym is used for recess on rainy days.

Book checkout happens every week. The library is open to any students at recess if you prefer to spend that time reading quietly.

Shabonee always offers a variety of different fun opportunities before school and during recess for students to become involved. Activities can change from year to year.  

Where do I go on the first day of school?

We will let your parents know which door to come into the school. There will be teachers waiting inside to help you get to your meeting place. Don't worry! We have many caring adults to help you during this time.
