REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

A one-day Pre-Vocational training to the students of Class VI was given on Wednesday, 10 January, 2024 in the disciplines of Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry and Gardening. The students got hands-on experience to do the basic activities in the above skills.

Mrs. Salma Peter, our P. Edn faculty member was in the team which lifted the District Throwball Championship. She was selected to represent the Kerala team and will participate in the Interstate championship to be held in Goa.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME CLASS XI

The students of class XI were taken to the Old-Age Care Home, 'Abhaya' at Kalamassery as a part of the social outreach project on 10 and 11 January. They interacted with the people there, bringing companionship and joy into their lives. The students also performed programmes for the inmates. A variety of performances were put up by the inmates who were visibly excited and enthusiastic. The students donated some items for their daily use. This outreach program sensitised our students about the importance of spending time with elderly people. Students left the care home, giving the promise to return to receive the warmth and love of those loving mothers and with a new insightful learning that “A joy that’s shared is a joy made double”

Ekastha 2024, a landmark event organized by Students of Kerala Educational Trust (SKET) in collaboration with Assisi Vidyaniketan Public School, Together We Can, and Raksha Society. Inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this two-day international conference aimed at fostering inclusivity in education. The success of Ekastha 2024 was made possible through generous financial support by individuals, Assisi School, HDFC Ergo, Wonderla, Rotary Cochin Titans, and Aurasikshna. They recognized the importance of promoting inclusivity and educational excellence. The conference was held on January 27 and 28, and was centered around the theme "Building Bridges in Inclusive Education: From Paper to Practice." This theme echoed the commitment to translating theoretical ideals of inclusivity into actionable practices within the educational landscape. Mrs. LV Jayashree, Executive Director of the Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu, commenced the conference with a powerful session on Empowering Transitions - Strategies for Educators in Cross-Disability Inclusion. &nbsp;Ms. Astrid Udo, an international expert in physiotherapy, enriched the audience with her presentation on incorporating movement into learning. &nbsp;Mr. Joseph George P, a seasoned professional with expertise in Emotional Intelligence, explored the profound impact of EQ on teachers. Mrs. Teresa Rani Venattu Sebastian, a dedicated Ph.D. Scholar, delved into the intricacies of differentiated teaching. Dr. Seema Girija Lal, a Ph.D. holder in Mental Health, Disability, Education, and Advocacy, provided a comprehensive exploration of legal frameworks pertaining to the rights of disabled individuals in education. Mrs. Rosemary Joy, a dedicated professional in Special Education, conducted an innovative session merging engaging activities with educational objectives. Rev. Fr. Benny Chiramel SJ gave concluding remarks about the two-day conference.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME VI A &amp; VI F

“Being involved in the community helps to shape your thinking. The outreach, in being a blessing to others is a resource for reflection and much gratitude.” The students of class VIA and VIF visited Boys Home, Koonamavu on Monday, 15 January 2024. The children were accompanied by the teachers, Rose Mary, Sunitha Suresh and Sini Rajesh. The Assisians were given a very warm welcome by Fr. Jose and the inmates. The inmates were very excited to show their fish ponds, pigeons, rabbits, dogs and cats. The boys themselves look after these animals and birds. They keep the surroundings very neat and tidy. They are taught to be independent and responsible. The inmates and Assisians played basketball together. Snacks and juice were served. The students interacted with the boys and these were followed by an entertainment program. The students handed over the money to support these young boys. The nature-friendly atmosphere with all clean surroundings helped our children to experience love, peace and happiness. This visit has made our children a hundred times more thoughtful and responsible. 

On Friday,12 January, 2024, the Annual School Exhibition and Digital Fest, "EXPOSICAO 2024" was inaugurated by our proud alumnus, Er. Neil Mathew, a leading Software Engineer at Informatica, R&amp;D, Bengaluru. He advised the children to practice out-of-the-box thinking as many multinational companies look for such traits in job aspirants. The exhibition featured a diverse range of projects and models, including both simple experiments and complex interdisciplinary projects. The students and teachers of the Canadian Public School, Puduppadi, our hub school, visited the exhibition and interacted with the exhibitors.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME 	 CLASS IV E

As part of the Community Outreach programme the students of class IV E were taken for a visit to 'Home of Faith' in Chittethukara, Kakkanad. They were warmly welcomed by the nuns and inmates of the home. The students interacted with the inmates and distributed bakery items.   The visit to the esteemed organization was an eye-opener and life-changing experience for the students.

"Roller skating is not just a sport, it's a lifestyle." Our School launched the first prestigious venture of organising the Assisi Roller Skating Tournament on 13 January, 2024. The huge turnout for the tournament with over 113 schools and 625 skaters is a striking example of a significant breakthrough in the rising popularity in the sport of skating. The School Director, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Baiju Ben inaugurated the competition. The School Administrator, Rev. Dr. George Mathirappilly honoured Althaf Sameer, Shaun Manu (the winners of the National Roller Skating Championship) and Avanthika Linu Mohan (the prize winner in several Kerala State Roller Skating Competitions). Assisi Academy coach, Mr. Rajesh S.S. was conferred a special award for his devoted service. Ernakulam District Roller Skating Association Secretary, Mr. Bagyaraj and Kerala State Roller Skating Association Senior Vice President, Mr. B V M Reddy were also present. The tournament was conducted under the aegis of the Kerala State Roller Skating Association. The competitions took place simultaneously in two separate venues on the School campus. The skilled skaters of Assisi Vidyaniketan showed their proficiency and outmatched others in their home ground and triumphed as the Overall Champion. Assisi had a representation of 69 participants in the team. The team achieved remarkable success by winning a total of 20 medals and 48 points in this highly competitive tournament.

In the All Kerala Sub-Junior Badminton tournament affiliated to KBSA held at Thrissur in the UNDER 13 BOYS SINGLES and BOYS DOUBLES, JOHAN JOHN FREEJO secured the GOLD Medal🥇 🥇and emerged the CHAMPION.

On 23 January, 2024, the Social Policing Division of Kochi City Police conducted a programme on Digital Safety &amp; Anti Drugs campaign. The programme was inaugurated by Additional S.P. DCP Admin, Shaju K. Varghese. A session on Digital Safety was taken by Adv. Jiyas Jamal. He spoke about how to keep oneself protected against the trap laid by cybercriminals. A session on self-defence was taken by WSDT and informed us that they are ready to send resource persons to schools. Police officials explained about their various initiatives like Digital de-addiction centre, Ente Koottu, Chiri, Hope, etc. They also took classes on the increasing use of drugs in society. Hida Maria Jose (VIII D) and Akshaya Villy (VII C) lifted the GPS Super Serve Cup, the Inter School U 16 Badminton Championship conducted by Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor.

Our Junior Football Team won the Runners trophy at the 6th Rev. Dr. Francis Kannikal SJ Memorial Inter School Football Championship.

The 6th Rev. Dr. Francis Kannikal SJ Memorial Inter School Junior Football Tournament 2024 was conducted from 18 to 20 January 2024 at our School. In an electrifying atmosphere and amidst great enthusiasm the students under 13 years showcased their talent, dedication, and unparalleled sportsmanship.   Sporting events are not merely contests but a powerful medium to instil values of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork in students. Beyond promoting physical well-being, they play a pivotal role in character development. This year’s Inter-school Football Tournament was a neck-to-neck intense battle between 20 schools wherein the students demonstrated their remarkable teamwork and sportsmanship. Finally, the Runners Up Trophy was bagged by Assisi  Vidyaniketan Public School, Kakkanad and the winner’s trophy was picked up by Chinmaya Vidyalaya,  Thripunthura. Trophies and medals were awarded to the champions as cheers of encouragement and appreciation resounded throughout the venue. 

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARDS (RYLA) PROGRAMME

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program, organized by the Rotary Club of Cochin Harbour on January 13, 2023, proved to be a transformative and enlightening experience for aspiring young leaders. Under the guidance of Rtn. Gee Varghese, the President of the Rotary Club, the event kicked off. An insightful introduction was given by Mr. M Pramod Kumar. The students were involved in various activities to hone their Leadership skills.

National Road Safety Awareness Month was observed by sensitizing students about road fatalities and the measures to improve the safety on road. As part of the observation, a Cycle Marathon was conducted by the students of class VII on Monday, 22 January, 2024.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMME CLASS X

As part of the Community outreach programme, the students of Class X visited Karunalayam, a hospice for the elderly destitute, who were discharged from hospital, but had nowhere to go and also for the abandoned found on the streets. The students interacted with the inmates and requested their prayers and blessings for the upcoming board exams. The provisions collected from the students were handed over to the nun in charge of Karunalayam. It was indeed an eye-opener and learning experience for the students.

Steve Cherian of Class IV F got 3rd Prize in the State level Table Tennis championship.

Sreya M V of class IX A won the 3rd Prize at the painting competition organised by the Ministry of Education and held at KV No. 1 Naval base.

In the Brain Hunt Inter School Quiz Competition conducted by the Rotary Club at Rajagiri College of Engineering, Kakkanad, on 20 January, 2024, Jian Jomy, Akhil Krishnan and Faiz Mohammed Thayeeb won the Second Prize, a cash award of Rs. 6000 and certificates.

Dear Parents and Students, Empower the children with the ‘I CAN' Mindset. There is incredible potential within every child to drive positive change. The remarkable power of children to effect positive transformations in their communities and beyond is to be emphasised. We have to empower young minds to become leaders of change. The ‘I CAN' Mindset, is facilitated by the FIDS (Feel, Imagine, Do, Share) framework developed by Design for Change. This simplified design thinking process encourages children to identify issues, imagine solutions, take action, and share their stories of change with the world. The children are 'superheroes’ who are capable of implementing robust solutions to address the pressing challenges of our time. Assisi hosted two major inter-school events in January. They were Roller Skating and Junior Football tournaments, both of which fetched a lot of goodwill for the school. The rising popularity of skateboarding as a recreational activity was evident from the camaraderie displayed on the skating rinks during the first Inter-School Assisi Roller Skating Championship. Home of Faith is a rehabilitation centre for differently abled children, run by the devoted and dedicated nuns of Preshitharam Convent. Our students interacted with the inmates and distributed toiletries.   The visit to the esteemed organization was an eye-opener and life-changing experience for the students. They were filled with emotions and sentiments. It provided an opportunity for the students to instil an insight into their responsibilities towards the betterment of the lives of others. We are grateful for the unwavering support of our student's parents, who play a significant role in nurturing their holistic development.

A Smartphone was gifted to the brilliant and responsible Rose Mariya, a Plus One student and an inmate of Home of Faith, Kakkanad by the Interactors of Interact Club of Assisi. She was in dire need of a phone for her study purposes. The fund was raised through the Food Sale conducted during various programmes in the school by the Interactors under the leadership of their teacher coordinator Deecy Joseph.
