Your child has been nominated by their teacher to participate in our Maths Circles programme, starting from January 2022.

This online overview will provide you with further details about the programme, but if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with the Outreach Team by emailing: events@exeterms.ac.uk

It is our intention that students join us in Year 7 and remain on the programme until Year 11.

WHAT IS MESME
MESME stands for: Mathematics Education for Social Mobility and Excellence.

MESME exists to support students from all backgrounds to achieve mathematical excellence, so that they can go on to have a greater and richer range of future personal, employment and economic choice.

MESME is piloting and launching Maths Circles across the country for students aged 11-16 and is working in partnership with Exeter Maths School to support the South West region.
WHAT IS A MATHS CIRCLE?
Maths Circles are designed to support able Maths students to develop their mathematical thinking, reasoning skills and problem-solving.

Expect a selection of problems/tasks and co-operative activities from across the KS3 curriculum and beyond!

FORMAT
Working in a group of 6, you'll be assigned a mentor who will work with you online for an hour a week, over 20 weeks (dates can be found overleaf).

Within this 20 week period, we are aiming to host 2 face-to-face days (also noted overleaf). On these days you will meet and get to know others who are taking part, along with some of the mentors. You'll be helped to get set up on Microsoft Teams, ready for the online sessions. Most importantly, you'll work on some exciting maths together!

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Please note that financial support is available to aid pupil premium students with IT equipment if needed, as well as travel bursaries for the face-to-face days.
If your child does not qualify for pupil premium, but you would still struggle to cover the cost of travel, please let us know via the application form. We do not want the cost of transport to be a barrier for students participating.
