Age ratings There is so much that we can do online nowadays including playing games, chatting with others, watching TV or sharing our videos/photographs. One of the ways we can help keep our children safe online is by checking age restrictions/ratings as detailed below: • Films: The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rate films. PEGI considers the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty. It is important to note that PEGI do not take into consideration the chat facilities within games. • Apps: Check the individual age ratings within the relevant app store. We also recommend that you download any apps and use them yourself to check their suitability. • Social Media networks: All social media networks have a minimum age rating; they are all at least 13+

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK IN ST.STEPHEN CHURCHTOWN ACADEMY?

In Crantock this week, we have been sequencing a chase scene for our independent write based on the spy thriller genre with some help from the classic 80s film 'Back to the Future.'&nbsp; In Maths we have begun to explore fractions which the children have tackled with great enthusiasm.&nbsp; We have also had quite a musical week - we have listened and responded to a piece of soul music and discussed tempo and pulse as well as what gives music a minor or major feel.&nbsp;The children then performed along to a piece of music using glockenspiels.&nbsp; In our PE module on dodgeball, we have been identifying the mechanics of attack and defence.&nbsp; It's been a great week!&nbsp;

The week in Lansallos started by sorting vertebrates into species and ended with putting coins onto a face of Pudsey for Children In Need.&nbsp; As ever the staff in class are so proud of all of the children’s hard work, meeting all of our school values every day.&nbsp; Yr3 working hard learning how to draw bar charts and Yr4 continuing on their multiplication journey.&nbsp;

On the website they can access 1-2-1 counselling, get support, access mental first aid kits, log a mood journal, view coping kit, play games &amp; view their supportive calm zones. The calm zone has yoga videos, tools to express themselves and breathing exercises.

What a busy week we have had in nursery! We started the week with our odd socks for anti-bullying week and talked about how we can be kind to our friends, we have had a different nursery rhyme as a focus for each day for National Nursery rhyme week and we have been learning about Diwali through the story of Rama and Sita.

This week we have been writing our final narrative based on the book we've reading: The Iron Man. The children have worked so hard to include the grammar skills they have learnt in the last few weeks. We have been busy in science sorting animals and using classification keys to group them correctly using their characteristics. We have been using our map skills to find Pompei which was destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted. We used Google Earth, atlases, chrome books and a globe. We used role play in RE to act out a modern day version of the Good Samaritan, we decided that the message in the story is that everyone should be treated equally and with respect no matter what our differences are.&nbsp;

In Science this week, the children went on an invertebrate hunt around the school. The instruction was to find an invertebrate &amp; use the Invertebrate Classification Key to find out what it is - then tick it off and draw a quick sketch of it in the box below. Each pair carefully captured an invertebrate specimen/a photo and brought back to class for further study. Our RE lesson was in Rangoli pattern style. The children have created a wonderful piece of collaborative class artwork.

This week Crooklets class have continued learning about Owl Babies and have also read The Awesome Night Sky. We have made rockets and planets in our COOL time and included some super writing. Year 1 have been on learning about 3D shapes by naming them, finding them in our environment and make repetitive patterns. We also learnt about Children In Need and decorated our own Pudsey Bears. A super week Crooklets can’t wait for next week!

In Polkerris this week the children been listening the story In the Awesome Night Sky, everyone has shown great enjoyment creating different planets and thinking about how close or far away from the sun they are. In addition, they have enjoyed singing and acting out nursery rhymes, we think a favourite is five speckled frogs for sure. They have also shown great enthusiasm in their writing this week producing some lovely writing to go alongside their designs and creations. Finally, everyone enjoyed participating in Children in Need Day and had great fun doing the different activities.&nbsp;

READING IS IMPORTANT TO US AT ST.STEPHEN CHURCHTOWN ACADEMY

Welcome back to the Reading page of our Newsletter. This year we are celebrating our Reading for Pleasure culture in school.

On&nbsp;Thursday&nbsp;2nd&nbsp;November, we held our first Reading Champions meeting. We discussed their role which is to encourage everyone in school to want to read. Next time, they are going to come to the meeting with their ideas for making this happen, right from Nursery up to Year 6.

This week in Readymoney, we have been exploring 3D shapes in maths. The children have exploring which shapes roll and stack, the names of the 3D shapes and even been on a shape hunt around the school. Next week we will explore 2D shapes and make links between the two. In science we have been learning about different types of weather. We have&nbsp;been using different weather measuring equipment to gather data about the wind, rainfall and temperature.&nbsp;

The highlight of the week for Fistral was the trip to Truro Museum. We looked at toys from the past and compared them to toys today. We also explored the rest of the museum in the afternoon- we found a real Egyptian mummy, used microscopes to look at wildlife found in Cornwall and saw a display about plastics discovered around our coastline.&nbsp; The children thoroughly enjoyed their day and behaved so well. Well done children. Also, a big thank you goes out to the parent helpers who came along with us.&nbsp;

Working in our school kitchen is a very special job. You will be responsible for feeding lots of our children (and staff!) and for many children, this is one of their favourite parts of the day. They like to have a chat with the school catering team as they collect their lunch. Caerhays have had a good week, engaging in a range of active lessons. This week we are particularly proud of our work in music and ICT. In music we created 2-bar compositions to percussion and in ICT our Year 6 students created 3D name badges.&nbsp;
