There is so much that we can do online nowadays including playing games, chatting with others, watching TV or sharing our videos/photographs. One of the ways we can help keep our children safe online is by checking age restrictions/ratings as detailed below: • Films: The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rate films. PEGI considers the age suitability of a game, not the level of difficulty. It is important to note that PEGI do not take into consideration the chat facilities within games. • Apps: Check the individual age ratings within the relevant app store. We also recommend that you download any apps and use them yourself to check their suitability. • Social Media networks: All social media networks have a minimum age rating; they are all at least 13+

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK IN ST.STEPHEN CHURCHTOWN ACADEMY?

This week in Crantock, we have been learning about periscopes in Science.&nbsp;We all had a go at making a periscope which was lots of fun! We have been practising for sports day in our athletics module and we talked about ways in which we could go faster and put these to the test. In Spanish, we have been talking about el aeropuerto (the airport) and what we would find inside an airport and how to read an arrivals and departures board.&nbsp;We are already looking forward to next weeks learning!&nbsp;

Lansallos have started the Summer term with ‘Fairy Fires’, a History immersion day and recorders as well as all of the other activities they work so hard at.&nbsp; Monday was spent fully immersing themselves in anything Anglo-Saxon or Viking; making masks, clay models and researching.&nbsp; By Wednesday they were in the Forest School area making ‘Fairy Fires’ and Thursday afternoon they had their first recorder session within Music.&nbsp; What a busy week!&nbsp; They have also started reading Beowulf as the class text and continued with capacity or decimals in Maths.&nbsp;&nbsp;

We've had a busy week in Polzeath, starting our new topic, 'Come Outside' and reading our class text, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt.' Lots of time was spent outdoors developing our gross motor skills through the use of our&nbsp;new balance bikes, trikes and scooters, which the children absolutely loved. We also continued our physical development indoors through our weekly 'Squiggle While you Wiggle' and our new, 5-a-Day fitness programme, where the children get 5 minutes of physical activity through the form of dance. Phew! Well done everyone!

A school lunch costs £2.45. Please pay in advance via Parent-pay by midnight the night before. Meal selection is now required by all parents even if your child is entitled to free school meals.

CHILDLINE <a href="https://www.childline.org.uk/">https://www.childline.org.uk/</a> 0800 11 11 You can access a great range of tools &amp; help for children who need a helping hand with their emotions/feelings and also help for those children being targeted for bullying or witnessing &amp; involved in domestic violence or assault within their own homes. On the website they can access 1-2-1 counselling, get support, access mental first aid kits, log a mood journal, view coping kit, play games &amp; view their supportive calm zones. The calm zone has yoga videos, tools to express themselves and breathing exercises.

SPORTS AT ST.STEPHEN CHURCHTOWN ACADEMY

This week we have started our Anglo- Saxons and Viking topic. In our first lesson we found out the push and pull factors that brought the Anglo Saxons to Britain. We also discovered that Anglo Saxons are made up of 2 tribes: The Angles and the Saxons. In our English we have been learning about the Legend: Beowulf and we have been writing descriptive sentences about who's appearance and his character traits. We also had the pleasure of starting our team building in the wildlife area. It's been a very busy first week back.&nbsp;

Perranporth first week was amazing! We have learnt so much about the new topic, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. During our topic day, we learnt some facts, made Viking bread and we made commemorative plaque of the King Alfred the Great. &nbsp; In English, we linked the topic to our writing identifying different layout devices. Especially, we have enjoyed the bullet points.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Crooklets class have had an amazing first week back. We have started our new topic 'What's growing in the garden?' We have been reading Pattan's Pumpkin and Supertato this week and have created our own Supertatos in craft area, used pumpkins in our creative area and planted potatoes in our garden. We have loved spending time outside in the sunshine!

This week in reception the children have been thinking about numbers to 13 and have enjoyed a game of saying the next number in turn and then sitting down when they got to 13. Everyone has been busy learning their phonics, reading long sentences and some amazing words such as fizzes and wishes. The children are also perfecting their sentence writing with lots of focus on correct letter formation. In COOL time everyone has been very busy indeed weeding the planters, riding bikes, trikes and scooters and using the new three tier water tray. Well done Polkerris.&nbsp;

Readymoney have had a fantastic first week back after the Easter break. We have started exploring our new geography topic- Where does my banana come from? The children have started to create their very own banana shack in the role play area, used atlases to find where bananas grow in the world and found out how bananas are harvested and transported to the UK. In maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, using the maths resources to help us.&nbsp;The children have really enjoyed this and are becoming more fluent in their counting. Well done everyone. In science the children learnt about different animal diets and how we can group them according to whether they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores. The children then had an opportunity to chose an animal for themselves and carry out some research on its diet using iPads.&nbsp;

A new fund raising event for us to look forward to! You sort....they collect....we raise funds!&nbsp; Look out for our collection date and update on where items can be dropped, and when.

Fistral have enjoyed sharing two new books this week- Lila and the Secret of Rain, and The Cloud Spinner.&nbsp; We have also learnt about bread, where it comes from, how it is made and the journey the ingredients go on. We were amazed to see how wheat is harvested and made in to flour.&nbsp; We are looking forward to making our own bread next week. On Wednesday, it will be our turn to have fun in the nature area where we will be attempting to cook some of our bread outside by a fire!&nbsp;

Caerhays have had a week full of different activities. Our highlights were our musical exploration of Shakespeare's The Tempest and making fairy firesin the wild area with Mr Turnham.
