Cecco D'Ascoli is an astrologer. This is the reason why he is condamned to die on the stake.

2) The night before the stake time, the Devil goes to Cecco and says: ''Drink some water,so you can be safe"... But Lady Berta hears everything.

In the morning, Berta opens the window of the church "Santa Maria Maggiore" and tells to the people of Florence: "Don't give Cecco D'Ascoli any water!"
