Maths week 6-10

This week we have been comparing who has more or fewer. Sometimes we had exactly the same and this is called equal. 

It isn't fair if I have all the apples.&#160;

If we all have one each then it is equal.&#160;

Today we have been exploring toys with parts. Can you guess what the whole toy is when all the parts are put together?

Today we have been exploring the vocabulary of tall and short. Look at some of the objects we found as part of our homework challenge that are tall and short.

This week we have been learning all about the number 5. We know that we have 5 fingers on each hand and double 5 is 10 so we have 10 fingers all together! We have been learning the number song 'Five little peas in a pea pod' and thinking of the different ways we can make 5.

We looked at how we could  sort a group of objects. Here are some of our ideas....

We learnt all about Numberblock Number 5. He sang a fantastic song about 'high five'. We talked about why it might be called a high five. We then began to represent 5 pictorially and wrote number 5.

In our session, we thought about all of the things that are cold and those that are hot. We linked our understanding of 'cold' to the season Winter and how the temperature is lower in Winter which is why it feels cold outside. We then sorted different images that are cold and those that are hot. To further develop our understanding, we compared objects with different temperatures which were a cube of ice and a hand warmer.

This week we have been making our own stampoline patterns for 4 and 5. We looked at how the whole number can be made up of different parts. This can be shown in a part - whole diagram.

The whole is 4 and the parts are 2 and 2. Double 2 is 4. Louie
