Jack and the Beanstalk Class 2

I have done a picture of the Queen and I have added the flower on her hat, her earrings, her curly hair and a jewellery thing on her jacket. Stanley&#160;

This half term we have been lucky enough to have Mrs. Hardman working with us to create a dance. We have been making a dance based on the theme of toys. Have a look at some of the videos and see if you think we did a good job. 

We released the butterflies into our wild flower meadow. The children were very excited! Watch the video to see what happened. 

What a fantastic way to kick off our half term! We all came to school dressed as a character from a traditional tale. We talked about the difference between traditional tales and the newer stories that we like to read today. Can you guess which tales we are from?

We then learnt about a story called 'David and Goliath'. Firstly we looked at the images in the children's bible. We talked about what Goliath and David looked like and what their 'jobs' might be.

We met a new friend 'Imran'. Just like Grace, we looked closely at what Imran was wearing to give us some clues as to what religion he might be. He had a crescent and a star on his top. Can you guess what religion Imran is?

We introduced our 'new friend' Grace. We passed her around the classroom and asked the children if they could identify any symbols on Grace that may show what religion she is.

Together we decided that Grace was a Christian. We then looked at Christian bibles including 'The Children's Bible' that as a Christian Grace may choose to read. We talked about who the figure on the front could be and decided it could be Jesus.

In Music, we listened to the story of 'The Helpful Elves'. In the story the shoemaker was very poor and only had enough money to make one more pair of shoes. In the night some elves visited and made the shoes for the shoemaker. He was able to sell them the very next day gaining enough money to make 2 pairs of shoes. The following night the same thing happened, the elves returned and made 2 more pairs of shoes. The shoemaker was no longer poor!

We talked about how there are strangers and safer strangers.

We then read the story of David and Goliath. Ask us what we can remember!

If Goliath won David and his people would have to be slaves.&#160;

Golaith was a giant and he was very mean to David. Then they started a fight, David won the fight. He got back his Sheep then he lived happily ever after.&#160;Emily P

We have been mixing colours once again! We have been mixing green- ask us what colours we use to make green? Once we had created green we painted our very own beanstalks. What do you think?

Religious Education- Which stories are special and why?

We have looked at a range of different Christian symbols and bibles. Mrs. Gilroy showed us her gold cross that was bought for her when she was confirmed. We talked about how Christians believe in God and that the place they may visit to talk to God is called a church. We talked about why bibles are special.

We learnt about another Christian story 'The calming of the storm'. We read the story from The Children's Bible and watched a video about it and talked about what was the same and different. We then looked at an image by the artist Rembrandt and talked how the disciples might have been feeling. 

Jesus lifted his arms up and said 'Be still' and 'Be calm'. Reuben&#160; The waves and the wind stopped. Rosa&#160;

We have been practising our observational drawing this half term. Did you know you have to look really closely at the picture you are drawing? And keep looking back at it as you draw? What do you think of our drawings of the Queen? 

We have been talking about ways to keep healthy. We have been talking about how important it is to stay hydrated particularly as the weather gets warmer. Did you know you can get some hydration from foods? Ask us about it!

We have been planting beans this half term. Together we looked at what we need to plant beans. We discovered we need soil, water, sun and a bean and some patience! We also put some holes in the bottom of the pot for drainage. But after a few weeks we could really see a difference...

You need to water it to make it grow higher. Scarlett

We had special visitors this half term. They arrived as caterpillars and left as butterflies. This gave us the perfect opportunity to recap over all our learning about lifecycles from last half term. We watched the caterpillars grow big and fat, turn into chrysalides and then released them into our wildflower meadow!

The cocoons are spikey and 2 have hatched into butterflies. They are called painted ladies. Harvey
