Class 2 Autumn 2

Today we helped Magic Max with his counting. We recapped our top tips! 

Here are some pictures of us counting using our top tips of moving the objects so you know what you have counted or putting them in a line. 

We also used some ice cube trays to help us count them more easily. We took our own photos! 

We have been learning new number facts. We know that Double 1 is 2. You can say this as 1+1 = 2 as well.

Today we looked at dot patterns for number 4. We could see some patterns for 2 and 3 within the dot patterns. Here are some things we noticed!

We looked for one thing in our classroom and then another one. This made two! Here are some pictures of things we found.

We looked at the different shapes that number 4 can make. We talked about what we noticed. We explored lots of ways to make 4. 

Today we tried not counting but subitising sounds. It was very tricky but we had a really good try. We also used dot patterns to help us identify what we heard. 

Today we looked at number 4 and how number 4 was made up of 3 and 1. We looked at how we can make number 4 out of 1s.

We explored a wide variety of objects to see if they were heavy or light. We used a set of balance scales to make comparisons between two objects. 

Today we met Magic Max the mathematician. He needed some help with his counting. The children noticed some things that Max was doing wrong with his counting and were able to give Max some top tips.

We then drew what we found and circled it and labelled it with the number 2.

We also looked at how a triangle has a similar pattern to one of the patterns for 3 we have been looking at. 

Today we looked at the number 3 again. We continued to make collections of 3 things and looked at how to write number 3.

For our homework challenge we had to look for where we could find 2 of things. Here are some pictures of what we found.

We found out all about patterns. We even created our own 2 colour patterns.

Today we looked at the number 3. We helped to have a picnic for 3 bears as they were hungry after Golidlocks had eaten all their porridge. 

Today we found out that you can count anything! Including sounds! Max set us a challenge to see if we could listen carefully and count what we could hear. Here is what we thought...

Today we counted some larger items in the environment. Max brought his magic wand to help him with his counting. We then had a go at counting and used magic wands too! Who knew counting could be so much fun?

We looked at shapes in the environment using some pictures. We then went on our very own shape hunt for homework!
