Spring 2 Floorbook Class 2

We have a special place in our school that we can visit if we have a problem. It is called the Rainbow Room. Mrs. Boardman came to talk to us to remind us about where it is and what it is for. We then went for a little visit so that we knew exactly where it was in school.

We have been exploring symmetry this half term. We have explored how butterflies look the same on both sides. We had a go at making symmetrical butterflies by using paint and folding the paper in half. 

This year for Comic Relief we supported the charity by wearing something red! Our school council asked children to bring in a joke as they wanted to make someone smile. We have decided to make this into a joke book and raise further money for charity! Thank you for all your support! :-) 

We had great fun, holding and learning all about the different minibeasts!

We designed a healthy sandwich for 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We discussed what fillings we could put in it. We discussed how 'best of both' bread is better than white bread as it contains wholemeal and white flour. We also discussed how too much salt can be bad for you.

We decided that ham, cheese and tuna were healthy options. Some of the children suggested extra fillings which we added to the shopping list too! 

First we spread the butter onto the bread. 

Tomatoes, cheese, ham...makes a healthy sandwich -Arthur-

It was hard to spread the butter as you needed to use your muscles -Amy-

Then we chose our fillings and added them to the sandwich. Some of us chose more than one filling e.g. ham and cheese! 

We were so lucky to have a virtual visit from Jan Oke. Jan is the author of the book 'Naughty Bus' that we thoroughly enjoyed reading last term. We asked lots of questions to Jan and found out lots of information. It has even inspired some of us to be authors!

Did you know that Jan wrote the story about her son Jack?&#160; Jan used to take her son to nursery school on the 88 bus.&#160;

We painted tissue paper to create our very own butterflies in the style of Eric Carle. We cut up the tissue paper and then stuck it onto a butterfly template to create butterflies in an array of colours.

This half term we have been reading the book 'My Butterfly Bouquet'.

We have learnt so much through this story... lifecycles of butterflies, seasons and how they change, some facts about butterflies including how they protect themselves from predators and how a little bit of colour can help cheer up the darkest of days!

There are lots of events and things that happen that are special and make us feel happy!

We thought about different Celebrations. We found out there was a festival called 'Sukkot'. We read a story about Sammy Spider and how he visited a family who were celebrating Sukkot. 

We found out that Sukkot is a Jewish celebration. It is celebrated by creating Sukkahs in an outdoor space. The sukkahs are decorated with fruit. 

We then used our musical instruments to add some percussion to our 'Sunflowers' song. We hope you like it! 

We have been making musical instruments. We added pasta or rice depending on what sound we wanted it to make. We either joined together two yoghurt pots or used a yoghurt pot with an elastic band and paper over the top. We decided the best way to join the instruments was using Cellotape not glue as it wasn't strong enough.

We even 'cut' and 'chopped' some of the fillings e.g. cucumber

Finally we cut our sandwiches up and placed them in a sandwich bag to take home. 

Ask us if we can remember some safety tips about using knives!

We dressed up for World Book Day. We dressed up as a character from our favourite books. We completed lots of fun activities such as decorating book marks and sharing our favourite stories with each other. We focused on the author 'Eric Carle' and read lots of his books. We also went to the hall and selected two books each for our school library. 

The Yellow Raindrop had a problem and we thought of some different ways to help him. Can you think of anything we may have forgotten?

We have been talking about times that are special for us.

We talked about different festivals that we celebrate.

We looked at all the different foods that the 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' ate. We sorted the foods into healthy or unhealthy foods and gave reasons for our decisions.

We warm up our voices when we sing! One of our favourites is 'I am the leader of my band.' We also like 'Doggy doggy, where's your bone?'

This half term we have learnt the song 'Growing Up'. We hope you like it! We have explored matching the pitch and following the melody.

We read the book 'Sunflowers' to find out how to plant a sunflower. We then wrote our own instructions and followed them to plant our very own sunflowers! We watered them each day and we are looking forward to seeing what happens. We also have planted a wild flower meadow so our butterflies (that we are getting next term) have somewhere to live.

This half term we had some special visitors to school...lots and lots of minibeasts!

This half term we have been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly. Did you know a life cycle is something that repeats and repeats?

We were given a 'special' box. We were not sure what was inside... we made lots of different predictions. We found out that we are special! We wrote about why we think we are special in our books!
