Class 3 Autumn 2

We have been learning new number facts. We know that Double 1 is 2. You can say this as 1+1 = 2 as well.

Today we looked at dot patterns for number 4. We could see some patterns for 2 and 3 within the dot patterns. Here are some things we noticed!

I can see double 2 and that makes 4. Alfie

There are 2 red dots and 2 yellow. 2 + 2 makes 4 Maisie

We looked for one thing in our classroom and then another one. This made two! Here are some pictures of things we found.

There are 3 squares on top of each other and one on the bottom next to it.&#160; Noah

Today we tried not counting but subitising sounds. It was very tricky but we had a really good try. We also used dot patterns to help us identify what we heard. 

Today we looked at number 4 and how number 4 was made up of 3 and 1. We looked at how we can make number 4 out of 1s.

We explored a wide variety of objects to see if they were heavy or light. We used a set of balance scales to make comparisons between two objects. 

Today we met Magic Max the mathematician. He needed some help with his counting. The children noticed some things that Max was doing wrong with his counting and were able to talk about them.

He is touching the same thing lots of times. Maisie

We held two bags of shopping and guessed what could be in them. One felt heavy and the other bag felt light.

When the object is heavy the pan moves down and the lighter object in the pan goes up.&#160; Phoebe

When the objects weigh the same the pans balance in the middle.&#160; Frankie

We also looked at how a triangle has a similar pattern to one of the patterns for 3 we have been looking at. 

We had a go at counting sounds with our friends. It was lots of fun!

We found out all about patterns. We even created our own 2 colour patterns. 

Today we found out that you can count anything! Including sounds! Max set us a challenge to see if we could listen carefully and count what we could hear. Here is what we thought...

Today we counted some larger items in the environment. Max brought his magic wand to help him with his counting. We then had a go at counting and used magic wands too! Who knew counting could be so much fun?

We looked at shapes in the environment using some pictures. We then went on our very own shape hunt around our classroom and outdoor area.
