E-Term Jewelry Making

Lily cuts her clay designs into fun shapes for pendants.

After we finished with the clay, we baked them in the oven to harden into beads and pendants for jewelry making.

As an additional project for the day, Mrs. Haarer and her husband cut out wood shapes.  We finished them with oil, painted with acrylics, drilled holes, and designed our own wooden jewelry pieces.  

The last bit of the morning was spent finalizing projects and making one last jewelry piece before the week was over! 

Caitlin Miller ('01 EMS graduate) started the week by demonstrating basic jewelry making skills. 

Britney's basket is still empty during our trip to Michael's Craft Store to buy beads and supplies!

We oohed and aahed over Malia's fetching anklet made with Melanie! 

Melanie Schaefer showed us her artisan-ship using metals and wire. We cut, pounded, oxidized, and shaped metal pendants for earrings and necklaces.

Elisabeth created vibrant swirly designs by mixing and twisting clay.

Barb Gautcher (Past EMS Art Teacher) joined us for the morning to show us how to create our own beads using polymer clay.

Celebration Breakfast! The menu was crepes, bacon, eggs, fruit, and cinnamon twists.

We visited Ten Thousand Villages Store to learn about how they offer fair wages to people in developing countries to sell their jewelry and other crafts in the US to enable them to learn a living.  We also volunteered time to help the store prepare for Earth Day by planting flowers and prepping activities. 

Lily spent her morning stringing tiny beads and her metal pendant into a long necklace.  

Elisabeth was phenomenal at transforming old jewelry into new works of art!

Kim Nieder from "2 Little Birdies" joined us for the morning. <br/>We had a blast choosing a significant word and pounding it into a leather and metal bracelet using metal stamps.

We used our new skills to start constructing jewelry! Hannah displays her  amazing new earrings!

As part of the E-Term experience, we keep a daily journal. We began our mornings with a devotional and journal reflections about the connections between art and faith.
