Giant pandas eat bamboo plants. They eat the woody, tough stems, and roots. Their favorite part to eat are the green leaves. Bamboo is not nutritious, so pandas have to eat ten to sixteen hours a day to stay healthy. Giant pandas also eat other things, like other plants and even some meat, but their diet consists almost completely of leaves, stems, and shoots of various bamboo types.

They can also live up to thirty-five years in captivity. The oldest panda in the world living in captivity, (imprisoned), was named Jia Jia, (pronounced Jaja). She was euthanized, (meaning put to sleep), at Ocean Park, an animal theme and amusement park in Hong Kong, China. She reached an estimated age of 38, equivalent to 114 human years old.
